Wet Ceiling

Two years ago our dishwasher and fridge leaked enough water over time to soak our basement ceiling. We ended up having to replace the entire ceiling downstairs, all the cartpet, and repaint everything. Huge project. Well the school decided that we have a four day weekend, and that Friday is our first day off. I stay home and I'm sitting on the couch, and suddenly I hear a gurgling sound from behind the fridge. I immediately investigate.

I end up trying to stop water from going onto the floor with small containers for the next few minutes, I try to turn it off but when I get to where it won't turn anymore it just makes the water spew straight upward. I make the water go straight down again, and call my parents who do not answer. I spend 10 minutes running containers back and forth from the sink untill my dad calls. He tells me where the water main is so I get the biggest container in the kitchen and put it under. It takes me about 3 minutes to find the water main.

To get to it I had to move our huge washer (alot bigger than normal ones) and squeeze through a little gap. Finally I turn it off, replace the container, and check downstairs. Water had gone onto the dry wall ceiling upstairs and was dripping down on the piano bench right next to my moms antique piano. Water is splattering on her piano. I spend the next 2 hours moving all the shit we have cluttered in our basement to the other side. (before that I of course soaked everything, and put a bucket under the leak)

Now I have to spend this 4-day weekend, and possibly my next free weekend with my dad replacing half of our basement ceiling again. If the school did not give us this Friday off, I can't imagine how bad that could have been, it was literally leaking fast enough that the 7 hours later that I would have gotten home from school the basement could have been flooded with 2 inches of water. Life sucks, but I guess it could've been worst.

Wow, Man. That seriously sucks! I'm glad you caught it before it got any worse, but still. Your mother must be really pissed about that piano!

Sorry about what you'll have to go through...again!

Maybe instead of spending money to constantly repair the result of faulty appliances, you should suggest that your parents invest in a new dishwasher and fridge?

That is ROUGH

Man I'm sorry to hear. plumbing sucks balls when it stops working.

On our Christmas breakfast our dishwasher machine started backing up into our sink. like dirty ass water.

Then it started spewing out of the actually machine.

That ruined my weekend for sure.

There was water EVERYWHERE and i honestly had to work of cleaning up for like 5 hrs before we even got to repairing the thing.... that's another story though.

One of the exciting parts of being a home owner is that something is always needing to be fixed - whether it's getting plugged up, or spewing, or some doggone skunk decides to make its home next to your furnace, or the oven quits heating, or the tiles choose to fall off the wall, or the circuit breaker goes kathwackata and the outlet in the garage begins sparking. Never a dull moment.

Kudos to you for being so conscientious and doing what you could to minimalize the damage. Bummer that it's messing up your vacation time though.

Life did suck this weekend ehh Rod? Sorry to hear that shit...keep your heads up and don't smash you finger with a hammer!
