if you did a lot of getting in and out of the pool, using the side of the pool to " boost " your self yourself while holding on to the side tiles, you wore out your toes. The skin is probably thinned out from the abrasive gunite, side of pool, and when you grab the edge to get out, your toes are holding, feeling the abrasive gunite on the side of the pool, and then you boost your self out, it just is wearing on your toes.
The skin on the bottom of your toes is probably a little thin, and your feeling it.
