Just traded my Ultra in a couple weeks back for a RoadKing. Gotta say, this may have been the best trade I have ever done. I love the ride of the KING. As far as the looks of the King, I gotta say, I love how in less than 5 seconds I can have the windshield off and have one cool looking cruiser. BUT with the windshield on, it's a great tour bike. HD, well done on the Road King!!

yes the roadking is a great bike, and if you really wanted a fairing you always have the option of buying a detatchable hoppe, dragonfly or tusaki batwing fairing with a stereo and it comes off in a couple of minutes add a detatchable tour pack and you have a long distance touring bike. i am also reluctant about buying a bike with a fixed fairing because of the wobble and the restrictive visability and the best thing is the wind in your face!
I too have been indecisive about which touring bike to get. After a year and a half of nothing, and before that road king classics and street glides, I was between the road glide, street glide and road king classic for the last 3-4 months. I just did not like the 2 into 1 exhaust on the 2010's. at 5'11" the road kings felt tall and big to me and the handlebars are miserable after 45 minutes as stock. I went back to the street glide 2011 with power pack in sedona orange. All three are awesome bikes( I've never ridden a road glide but it is basically a street glide with fixed fairing now). The reason I chose the street glide was easier resale. The previous two i was able to sale on craig's list within two weeks and had multiple people on a crimson 08 . But once I had a dolled up rkc in vivid black and got zero calls on when trying to sale. I like the fact that if no harley is selling well, a street glide will resale. It's like money in the bank imho. Before I brought the street glide home i had new catless head pipe and sert and ac with vance and hines twin slashes and absolutely LOVE the sound out of this bike. It's amazingly better than the past bikes I've had with rush slip-ons. Ordered lower farings also and hope to be able to ride in colder weather than in past. My wife also does NOT ride with me (past trauma icu nurse) so I only ride solo.

Good choice. I bought my RK this past Spring. A friend of mine bought a new Ultra (also a very nice bike), but he rides two-up where I don't. He said he liked the looks of the Road King more than his Ultra. I prefer the looks of the RK as well. It's got the vibe, the looks, and good performance as stock. And, you can improve on all of that as you see fit. Except for the vibe part. I don't think you can improve on that.

..you know..as someone with an Electra Glide...I have to admit..if there is ONE bike that personifies Harley, and will ALWAYS look good no matter how much time goes by...it's the Road King Classic...that is the Ultimate balanced Harley in terms of function AND form...yes my bike has more storage and some other things...but it's a trade-off..I can't just take the fairing off if i want..and i have to admit, I kinda miss that totally in-the-wind feeling I had on the Fatboy I had before this bike...a Road King is the best "all around" bike they make in my opinion...

Hi again everybody, thanks again to all for adding their two cents to my thread.
Well, I actually got a chance to duck out of work today for a while and go for even more demo rides today at our local HD dealership here in town.
This time I tried out an Electraglide Classic with the 96 cu.in motor, I was pretty impressed with how easy it was to maneuver at low speed, this was the first large touring Harley that I've riden. Out on the open road, it performed flawlessly and I started wondering if I'd written-off the Glides too soon.
Later in the afternoon, I was able to get in a demo on an Ultra Limited with the 103 cu.in motor, this bike was loaded and cost a bundle too. I called my Dad and asked him if he'd like to come down and jump on as a passenger, which he did. I found this bike to be a fair bit heavier then the Ultra Classic, then adding a passenger really gave me a challenge but at least I never dumped it! 8^)
But when all is said and done, I think that the Road King is still the better choice for me. I can't afford multiple bikes and I don't want an Electraglide as my only bike, so it's back to the mighty Road King. The most versatile bike on Harley's list IMHO. Oh and it's really kick-ass too!
