Well, I'm coming back to Nokia...

I'm a Nokia user that splits time with Android equally during the week.

Coming from Android you may not like like the current Browser or (lack of portrait) QWERTY (both will be upgraded and fixed by Feb 2011)

^ Get used to Opera and SWYPE (landscape only) till then.

Also lack of apps may be a turn off to some Android fans, but take a good hard look at your installed apps and decide what you CANNOT possible live without.

Nokia has Apps, but it pales in comparison to Android. With that said I can look at my Android devices and not find a single app that would be a complete dealbreaker if I had to leave Android. However the browser and QWERTY (mentioned above) is something that I feel is "currently missing" (for me) but it may not be the same for you.

Overall the N8 is a solid device and will get MUCH BETTER with updates.

Check out my review on the N8 and see if it helps... :)

Don't give so much credit to Nokia/N8. N8 is the best among Nokia phones but can't beat ip4 or latest Andriods like Captivate, X10 etc., I tried N8 for couple of weeks, got terribly bored due to it's limited capabilities. There is not much you can do with the browser, very limited apps support made me to put my sim back on ip4!

I've used my friends iP4 enough. Reception was only slightly better IMO than the 3GS but still disappointing. (Although battery was definitely better)

I like my Androids, but no phone can currently be my "Go-To" phone for work when I need it like my e72...

im interested in the N8 after seeing the 386 pricing (im so blown i missed up. hopefully they'll have another one). This leads me to wonder if this is a sign for me not to purchase it. MANY of the review sites slam the phone right off the gate for having clunky software. The thing that bothers me the most is the fact that they say even the most simplest tasks are cumbersome. if its like anything like my old n97 than im def staying away.

I too have used Androids, the 3GS and iPhone 4. I can definitely see the appeal of those devices to some. To me there is none. I am more happy with the N8 than I was with the above devices. I still have my N97 and I tried using it the other day. Other than the physical keyboard that device feels almost unusable to me now. Different strokes for different folks. I think those with Symbian experience will be very happy with the N8 and the other Symbian^3 devices coming out.

limited capabilities?? The only thing limiting about it is the apps, I only downloaded maybe 3 or 4 apps that were actually useful to me on my Captivate, the rest were pretty much dumb apps. Short of rooting the Captivate, its a broken phone with no GPS support and hotmail/yahoo emails sync doesn't work..and no camera flash or front facing camera is another bust ...

My wife and I just came back from vacation in Cancun...pretty much left the Captivate in the hotel and took my N8 out on every tour ...stuck in a prepaid SIM, instant internet/facebooking (Ovi maps for location check in) for my wife + panoramic pictures of the tour sites and HD recording of us getting Tequilla shots (see attachment)

and not to mention the HD recording of the Donkey show :p ...I'll post it on the Android Market

Well I got cold feet and canceled my N8 order. No return option with newegg and after hearing hofo users in this thread say the touch screen wasnt that good I got nervous. Its way too expensive to have a bad touch screen. Maybe bad isnt the word but the Focus and IP4 work very well and are very accurate. Im just not sure the great camera and other features would out weigh the screen. If I could only try one out that would help a ton.

My touch screen is fine on my N8... I sold my IP4 for it and have been very happy so far.. I don't think it's the touch screen as much as it is some crappy apps... For example, touch screen rocks for the regular OS and in Angry Birds etc.. The only times I have found the touch screen to be "meh" is with the OVI store.

I'm not regretting moving from the IP4 to the N8 at all.. Especially after using the camera :)

Youre perfect to ask these questions. So, coming from the IP4 how well can you type a text on the N8? Is it as accurate and easy? And does it auto correct things like i to I , stuff like that? Yesterday I grabbed a Samsung Focus from the Att store but Im not sold on it. It might be going back next week at this rate. So I know the camera is good, what about signal and dropped calls? Did everything set up easy? Anything not working? And I assume you had to go to Att and get a new SIM card too? Since the IP4 uses a micro sim.

Typing is the biggest downfall on this device.. How Nokia missed the boat on this is beyond me.. That said, Swype works awesome, so it's a non issue really now.. Except portrait, but, I don't type often using portrait..

I noticed the Swype keyboard does change things like i to I.. It's also crazy good at figuring out what I was trying to type even if I screw I up.. This was very surprising to me.

Setup is easy especially if you've used symbian before.. The interface wont be as slick as the IP4, but, the os flexibility more than makes up for it..

Signal is unreal. Nokia always knocks this out of the park..ni have full bars everywhere and only 1 dropped call (was driving) so far. I'm on Bell here in Canada and yes I needed to change my microsim for the full sim ($5)

The biggest thing you'll find is liberation.. Being able to Bluetooth files, set your own ringtones/SMS tones etc without Steve Jobs telling you what you should do is the best part of using a platform like Symbian (or Android). I got tired of someone dictating to me how I want to use a phone and restricting development because if it.

At he end of the day it's what phone suites your needs. Best of luck whatever you choose :).
