what I expected at all. (also, posted this on Digestive thread) I don't even know where I belong!

I had problems with hoarseness, then moved to acid reflux. Really expected to see a Hiatal Hernia.

Had upper GI/Barium swallow today and I was expecting a hiatal hernia dx,
but it was not what I expected at all.

First of all, it only took about 25 minutes, and wasn't bad at all. However, right from the start, the Barium wouldn't empty into my stomach. It finally did, but problem persisted throughout the x-rays.

From talking to the Dr (who was very nice, but spoke w/ a heavy accent, so hard to understand), the signal to open the stomach isn't occuring when I eat, so the barium was in my esophagus for longer than it should be.

He said he has seen this before and sometimes they treat it with meRAB, or a type of surgery. I was so surprised, I didn't think to ask him any questions or if it is a specific dx.

I am thinking that this means a nuraber of other tests I read about on these boarRAB; endoscopy for one.

Anyone have an idea what this might be? or treatments?

Also, I wonder if anxiety makes this worse. I can be having such a good day, and then get anxious and notice my symptoms of chest pressure and heartburn increase.

Thanx, as always

i can relate to the not being able to understand the doctor with the accent.

I' m wondering if you are schedules with a doctor follow up appointment . If you are , i would definately write down questions to ask. I always do and this does help so later i'm not wishing i would have asked something.

I wish i could be of more help but i have no idea of what surgery this would be. I've had the endoscopy and do have the hiatal hernia .

Maybe some answers can come about here for you. Otherwise i'd make that question list to ask the doctor and maybe the nurse can help translate to what the doctor is saying. Hope all goes well for you

I am new to this board.

Just wanted to let you know that I think anxiety is one of the main things. I was having a good, "normal" day and I got one of those hard to swallow moments at around 6:00 PM and I am now shot. Cannot swallow, rock in my throat, cannot sleep. This seriously sucks.
