Weirdest time cuts?

Brought on by discussing old Pokemon episodes elsewhere. What are the weirdest or most annoying examples of timecuts you've seen? Please try and avoid content edits since that goes against the general forum rules.

To go with the example mentioned above- ITV have to be one of the worst for trimming stuff out of kids shows to cram in more adverts. Back when they aired Pokemon, they seemed to think it was fine to just end an episode after Team Rocket get blown away. This often means about 5 or so minutes that actually close the story aren't viewable.

The Simpsons cut out a LOT of good material in it's syndicated run.

- The 'Flying Monkey's' bit in the episode where Homer gets a crush on his co-worker

- The 'You don't win friends with salad' gag in the ep where Lisa becomes a vegetarian originally ended with Marge joining the conga line.

There were a ton of others that I can't recall right now.

When I finally saw the episodes of the European Vacation from the classic TMNT series, uncut from a YTV tape, I was amazed how much USA cut out. The show is only 19 minutes, but they had too of cut out at least 3 from each episode. And some good scenes, too....even weirder, they cut out a bunch of little sections, like a 5 second clip of a solar sail 'powering up' for flight. I wonder what will happen when people just get tired of commercials and stop watching?

I noticed today that during the football game, instead of the show logo on the sports caster desk, they had a sponsor logo. Everything is a commercial now adays..

I'm pretty sure the syndicated episodes cut out 90% of the scenes where Bart prank calls Moe. I remember he used to do that a lot in the older episodes. But, nearly all of them have been removed in syndication.

What's ITV?

I remember watching their edited version of Showdown at the Pok?-Corrall. They split it into two 10-minute episodes.

The first part ended as Prof. Oak said "Let's Pok?-round in my laboratory." They even went through the effort of adding Part 1 and Part 2 to the title card, and editing the end of part 1 so that it looked like the ending to a regular episode (the screen shrinks to reveal a black background and the message To Be Continued in the corner).

Back when Ducktales was syndicated, the affiliate showing it (What would one day be the WB) for some odd reason chopped off a good two minutes at the front of each episode after the opening, so in the episode where Duckworth and the nephews were abducted by the vegetable aliens, we'd just cut to the scene of Huey, Dewey, and Louis finding Duckworth at the bus stop.

Thankfully they restored the episodes when Rescue Rangers came on the next season. That same station also cut down the 'Silverhawks' opening theme to thirty seconds the previous season.

Don't forget CBC cutting out 30 minutes of content from their airing of Spirited Away. They still have yet to respond to that whole ordeal.

When A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving first aired on ABC, I was so disgusted that they had cut out a significant amount of footage with Snoopy and Woodstock (the scene where they dressed up as pilgrims and the entire end segment) that I swore I would never watch it on that channel ever again.

Luckily I have the DVD.

I can recall one episode, the one where Scrooge goes to Tralala, they cut out a sequence that caused the episode to make no sense. They were talking and setting up that Scrooge McDuck's medicine was flammable, which is what they were going to use to signal a plane. They cut out the scene in which they used it, and all we see is a smoldering Scrooge and Fenton after they clearly shot off the flare gun to cause a chain reaction.

I also thought the 7 second Oogie Boogie Shadow dance in Nightmare Before Christmas was a stupid cut. After all, it made the "I'm going to do the best I can" cut away into his mouth make more sense.

If you look at the Making of book for NBX, you can see some storyboards for the instrumental part of that scene. Part of the cut involved not being able to make armatures small enough for the planned dancing insects iirc.

One of the Pokemon League village eps in the first series lost a whole scene where "Ash" looked around in a store that sold Pokemon stuff in the original. I suspect it was cut for the same reason YGO cards are digitally altered for the US show.

That was more of an 'Let's take out the explosion before someone gets offended cut'. I forget when the cut was made, but I haven't seen the original episode in forever. Let's hope the uncut episode makes it to the final volume.

I'm noticing that Cartoon Network's cutting Ben 10's theme song for time now, too, unless that was just for the marathon this weekend.
