Weirdest, most chilling, most ****ed up film you've seen?

Eraserhead is brilliant. As is Heavenly Creatures, although inexplicably there is no UK DVD of that. Most of the stuff mentioned here is an acquired taste though.
 
I saw "Eraserhead" many years ago when I was in my teens. I havent seen it since but its still stuck in my head. There are I would imagine some very clever people who can work out what is going on and explain the(presumed) deep meaning behind it.
For me its the weirdest film I have ever seen, so weird and surreal that it becomes scary. And I can still remember finding it difficult to switch out the lights to go to bed as my mind was full of the images and strange mumblings of the film. That scared me more than the gorriest horror film has ever done.

(Edit-having checked the Wikipedia page-the film is pretty gory as well-described as sickening)

hehe, saw the title of this thread and thought it would be about Antichrist or it would at least be mentioned.

I'm not really a fan of f*cked up films so don't go out of my way to watch them - so Antichrist is top of my little list..

I thought the cinimatography was great but really didn't go a whole lot on the film. I must admit though i do enjoy showing it to mates - with a running commentary and fast-forwarding from one shock scene to the other!

Agree with the poster who said about the sound-track to The Entity - really freaked me out when i watched that as a youngster!

Society - that was the one with Billy Warlock? He goes to a party and then it just goes bonkers??
 
Not a horror but I thought Jude with Christopher Eccleston was truly depressing and I agree that the Ray Liotta scene in Hannibal was disturbing & horrible. Also, I'm so glad that I've missed out on most of the films mentioned in this thread. :eek: :D

Meshes of the Afternoon

An avant garde short film from Maya Deren. Seriously wierd and unsettling, and the version with a soundtrack just makes things even more creepy. The grim reaper type thing with a mirror for a face gave me actual nightmares! I think it's on YouTube in two parts if you're interested, although watching a low resolution version on a computer monitor will probably mean it loses all it's impact and you'll wonder what i'm on about, lol.



No they weren't. The director just played on the fact that people thought it was real in order to get publicity.

The rats weren't actually eating the cat if you pay close attention, they were just licking some syrup stuff that was put on the cat. Any shots of rats biting the cat were faked (thankfully!).

At least that's what i've read anyway.
 
Bunman, AKA 'The Untold Story'

Mordum (and probably anything else from ToeTag Productions)

Seed (not a great film, after all it is Uwe Boll, but elements of that film stay with you, like the hammer scene)

The Human Centipede (fantastic film, saw it at last year's Frightfest!)


A lot of people here recommend Salo. I do have it on bluray, but time has not been good to that film, and if I'm honest I found it a little dull and a bit ridiculous, although I am interested in the real history of that period, particularly as one side of my family came from North Italy.

Edit: As a side note if you want a really 'out there' fun film, Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl' gets released on DVD next month. Saw it at Frightfest and loved it!
 
You should definitely give it another viewing, infact I should too, I don't even have it on DVD :o But it is one of the scariest films ever made IMO. I also liked The Grandmother.
