Weird SMS Notification Issue

Hi all. Not really sure where else to go.. but here goes.

Model: HTC Hero
OS: 1.5
Rooted: No

I use solely ChompSMS. My issue began when a friend on Facebook updated his status. I set Facebook to SMS me any time he updates his status. I ended up replying to the SMS to comment on his status, but it ends up he deleted that status update before my message went through. I got a reply of "Tim removed this status, so it cannot be.commented on."

The problem is that I now get this notification for every text i get. I uninstalled ChompSMS, used the default messaging client. Rebooted my phone, yet i continue to get this SMS notification for all my texts. when i click the notification, it just takes me to the Messaging app with no trace of the message that is reported on my notification bar.

And yes, I turned off the capability of receiving SMS from Facebook.

It is getting real annoying. Anyone have any ideas?

If you're happy to lose all our messages stored on your phone, try clearing the Messaging data. Home -> Menu -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Messaging -> Clear data.

I ended up doing that as well. What's weird is that it still happens. I installed ChompSMS again and enabled notifications on that and the default client. I got the same message under both notifications

That's how it works...

You don't have one app for each thing like you do in Windows. What happens is that when an SMS message is received, a message (called an intent) is broadcast by Android to all apps/processes that can react to it.

So, when you receive an SMS you may get several apps responding. On my phone the Messaging app, Loc Service (to check if the code to activate it is sent), Missed Call (for repeat notifications), and Phone Finder (in case I want it to tell me where my phone is), would all read the text message.

On your phone, both Messaging and Handcent will run, and if you have them both set to notify you then you will get two notifications in the notification bar (one from each app). If you use Handcent, you should turn off notifications in the default Messaging app.

I figured that's how it works, but then there's something on my phone that keeps notifying me about that Facebook SMS message. I thought I cleared the cache of every application/service on my phone, but it continues to plague me every time I receive a new text message.

I might just do a factory reset to get rid of it...
