Weird scary dream. what does it mean?

Ok so i am running through the city streets and im being chased by this hollow, faceless figure. The sky is dark and purple, and the streets are filled with people who i just phase through. I find my family and yell for help but they don't notice me and walk right through me. As they do that i get this really hollow, depressed feeling and see the figure catching up.
I get up to run but am stopped by an old man who grabs me by the shoulders and says "your not alone, follow the path and you will find destiny" he then turns to dust except for his skull.
The figure is about 10 feet from me now and stops. I just freeze up in terror and can't move. He then walks over picks up the skull, screams incredibly loud and then staggers. I start running when i find a glowing path and follow it, as i get closer i see my family at the end of a long tunnel covered in light. I then start running but the figure catches up and stops me. He turns me around and says "don't continue, you will find only sadness and pain" as he is saying the last words i wake up scared to shit.
what does this mean?
 
Usually when people have dreams of being chased and never creating any distance between the chaser it symbolises that they are trying to move on in life but cannot do so because of various obsticles. I think in your case you wil be faces with two decisions which you have to think about carefully as one will bring you " sadness and pain" and the other will be better in terms of happiness.
