Weird problem.

Sorry I'm new to these forums and I was wondering about this little problem I have and how to fix it.

When I go into messages, and in the To: box, when I try to type in a name, it doesn't register I guess? Like I'll type out Ryan but all that would come out is ryan(2392) or whatever. Not Ryan in my phonebook. Is there a way to fix this? The only solution I've found is to just use chompSMS but I would like to use default texting ;\

The messaging app will only show you contacts that have a "Mobile" phone number. If the contact you're searching for (e.g. Ryan) only has a Work or Home number, then no number will be found for them. This is common for people coming from Blackberries, and the BB incorrectly marks Mobile numbers as Work numbers when it exports them.

on my magic I have the same thing but I believe i know what it is, Imagine you are typing on a normal phone keypad like this:

the letter corresponds with the number it would be on the phone pad, For example if I type Ruth it comes up with 7884

7 = pqrs 8= tuv 8= tuv 4=ghi

Do you see now? I don't see the benefits of this function but still

Ryan would be 7926. That is why the numbers are appearing after the name that's being entered. But it doesn't explain why the name wasn't being sound in his contacts list (that's the real problem here).

The benefit is that you can have memorable words for companies. This is very common in the US, for example. AT&T in the US used to (maybe it still does?) have the number 2255288. So when you wanted to call AT&T you would type CALLATT, which would be 225528.

ah i see , that would explain that. I'm from the UK and we rarely use that method.

@ the OP

Have a look through your contacts name , is that a space before the contacts or a character between the names . i.e john~smith or something like that?

Had the same problem. This sometimes happens with contact names that consist of one word. Try changing Ryan to Ryan lastname where you enter Ryans last name and try again. Good luck
