weird noise??? any suggestions???

Well today i finally got to ride my baby..because its been raining every single day here in central florida for the last 2 weeks..the drawback from no rain was it was right around 100 degrees F all day and i was in stop and go traffic uhhh..can be no fun. The temp gauge read as high as 220 degrees. The noise i am talking about happened when i went to accelerate in 1st gear and i heard a small pop right around where the gas tank meets the seat. Didnt affect the rest of my days ride, rode like normal after that. It is the second time it happend. The first time was when the bike had 100 miles on it, now it has 450. Can anyone help with an explanation of somekind? i would really appreciate it...
 
Perhaps? I know on my bike a throttle body cover came loose at one time and my tech asked me if the bike had backfired. And being new to bikes sometimes I can tell and sometimes I can't tell if my bike backfires.....
 
I notice a popping noise when i flick the throttle from idle it is vey distinctive and i usaully hear it when im sitting at the lights and rev the throttle.
 
The other thing I notice riding behind 1098s is the exhaust...it makes a clunking noise especially at low speeds/stoplights. Weird, almost like the gearbox is torn apart...not sure if you could have heard the exhaust but wanted to let you know.
