Weird Itchy Joint Pain in Thumb

For the last few days the joint in my left thumb has been noticeably red, kind of swollen (enough to feel tight), and has this ITCHY weird pain. I instinctively feel like I want to scratch it when I'm busy and not paying attention. But, when I do, it doesn't help...it just hurts. It's mainly uncomfortable when I try to pick up something with that hand, like balancing my computer to carry it to another room. It doesn't feel or look like a bruise, and I haven't done anything to bruise it. I feel dumb complaining about it to a doctor if it's something little that will go away. But I'd like to know if that's the sign of something bad.

Hey! It's really weird, but the exact same thing happened to me yesterday. My thumb became extremely itchy and then became swollen and red, and it hurt to move it. Is there a little cut or hang nail on your thumb? I think what happened in my case was, I had a hang nail type cut (which stings really badly), and then I was petting my dog, which I'm slightly allergic to. I'm thinking maybe the allergens got into the cut and made the area swell? (not sure if that makes sense or not, but it was all I could come up with) Or, the cut became irritated and then became swollen. Almost like it was infected...however, that was yesterday and it's completely fine now.

Not sure if this is what's happening with you, but I hope it helps somewhat! If it doesn't get better within a day or so, I would get it checked out. Good luck!
