Weird issue powering up my Wii sometimes

I have WiiConnect24 on, which I'm assuming is why my power light goes orange instead of red when I power off my Wii. Well earlier today, I powered it off (to standbye - light went orange), but when I went to power the system back on, it wouldn't respond. I had to hold the power button until it completely shut down (light went red), and THEN start the system again.

Also, when the system was "stuck" in this standbye mode where I couldn't restart it, the controllers couldn't sync with it and I obviously couldn't power it on with those either.

What am I missing here?
 
Strange. I haven't had any issues, mine is either Orange or green, I only use the Wii remote to turn it on and off.
