That is not strictly true, dreams can mean a number of things and they are often the result of a over active subconscious.

dreaming about being pregnant in itself means something new will be happening soon,

dreaming of fish can mean several things, either you feel out of your depth possibly with this new start as indicated by your pregnancy part of the dream.

However fish can also represent new found feelings about your spiritual self, possibly turning a new corner in relation to feelings for other people.

I had a dream that I was just sat on my sofa and all of a sudden a fish popped out of me, it had a placenta and blood but the fish was battered like one from the chip shop. Then a couple of minutes later I gave birth to another battered fish and they were both on the sofa covered in slime and blood.
What does this mean? I have read somewhere that fish is a symbolism of pregnancy? Please help!

dreams have absolutely no meaning except maybe if your religious and you truly do believe in it. otherwise dreams are really just a result of neurotransmitters primarily dopamine when you sleep

Fish = Pisces = water and Water represents imagination, human feelings and one's ability to love and sustain. The Water signs are associated with growth processes, imagination, identification and emotion, and people with a lot of water in their make up are sensitive, seductive, intuitive, imaginative, insightful, secretive, loving, learned, and moody. In combination with the other elements, water feels that fire will make it boil, air will evaporate it, but earth will shape and channel it. It is the element of healing and spirit.
