Weight waiver for the U.S army?

I recently read a story about a soldier who was allowed to enlist in to the army weighing 302 pounds due to a weight waiver. How is this possible?

What are the chances of getting such a waiver if you weigh 300 pounds 6'3 29-30% body fat? I am able to do 14 push ups 45 sit ups in a minute and am able to run a mile fairly easily but its not exactly the fastest mile in the world admittedly.

Yes and I know losing weight is in my best interest either way and I have been. I use to weigh 395 pounds now 300.I lost a lot of weight playing football and power lifting in high school.

I visited a recruiter about a year ago and he thought I looked like I would pass the measure test but to his surprise I did poorly very poorly on it. Recruiter didn't know what to say. Though he did believe I would pass it if I got a tummy tuck to tighten up my gut since it was a bit loose since I had lost about 80 pounds at that point.
Sir, if I lost 80 pounds I would probably be dead as my Fat would be 1% or less
My fat free mass is 220 pounds.

if you lost 80 pounds you would not fall to less then 1% body fat so your wrong about that and right now the Army and pretty much every service is over staffed so waivers are pretty much not being handed out so just lose weight

Well army would like to see you loose 80 more lbs.

Weight standards and body-fat standards are different for each of the services:

I cant help but i just wanted to congratulate you in your weight loss before i enlisted i had to lose about 40 pounds and it took sooo much hard work but i did and served my time I know if you set the goals they are achievable. Good luck
