Weekly Music Trading Post

Haven't got round to listening to the album that Mr. Unchained Ballad sent me, but I promise I'll do my best this weekend!

Anyway, the reason I'm bumping this is because I'm wondering what anyone would think of another themed trade for the next one, except this time you send your partner an album of the kinda music they wouldn't normally listen to? Something well outside their comfort zone as a listener. Could make for some fairly interesting reviews anyway.

Feel free to let me know if you'd have any objections to that kinda thing.

Welcome aboard squire :thurab:

I'm gonna kick this off tomorrow, so if anyone else wants in, you've still got a little bit more time to make your minRAB up.

Bulldog sent me:

Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring (1986)

I've been hearing this album for the past 2 weeks, and still don't know what to write about it. I loved it from the first spin, so that's a good thing, and I'd love to get other Talk Talk albums, another good thing.
So to talk about the album now, I really liked it, even though it has a lot of the clich

I'm glad you liked the album. Despite my lack of review, I'm digging Fall Be Kind. I rarely dislike what I hear by Animal Collective. I'll start looking for something a little different to send you this time.

Haven't decided if it'll be themed yet. Probably not at this rate. Welcome to the fray anyhow :thurab:

Six of us now. If we can get it up to a nice, lively ten traders by the weekend, that'd be cool. So, anyone else?

Good laRAB :thurab:

Can't tell when the next one'll start just yet myself. Monday at the very latest I suppose.

Don't forget people, officially-released compilations, bootlegs and live albums are allowed for this.

RoemerMW sent me a 65dayspfstatic album which I loved. I really need to listen to more math-rock because this is great sh*t. I ill definatley be listening to it again. I loved the intrumentation the mst, which doesn't bore me like a lot of post-rock albums.

My bad, I completely missed this.

Wow, man...you tore this album UP. I really didn't see that coming...this is seriously the one electronic artist that both my electronic loving frienRAB and rock loving frienRAB can agree is good. You must really not like electronic music. What is it about it? Does it just get to overwhelming for you? From the sound of it you like to have consistency in your music as well as familiarity. If you have never gotten into electronic music the familiarity is gone, but I can recommend you things that are a bit more even...that is, if you still want to try to get into electronic music.

One thing I've noticed about different genres of music is that each one requires its own unique approach, and each person has a different approach to each one. It's all about finding that "click" in the music and once that happens, you will probably be loving it. That's why I stick to genres I am not familiar with at all...I know at some point I'll just "get it".

Anyway, thanks for trying to put up with the album. Apologies for sending you something so horrendous to your ears.

i suddenly feel like my reviews are small and lacking :)

i have to admit that even though you really seemed to dislike that album your review made me want to listen to it....nice job

i knew you would like it.

my fellow ant sent me independent worm saloon by butthole surfers, a band that i've seen championed and obsessed over by a lot of people i know. oddly enough, i'd never heard anything by them until now. i thought the album was a good example of the grittier, punk-influenced side of alt rock, and although it may not be my favorite album of all time i didn't think it was particularly horrible. a so-so album in my eyes, with some good tracks like the wooden song and you don't know me.

overall, if i had to give it a rating, i'd say maybe like a 6/10.
