Weekly Music Trading Post

No, it isn't really a big deal, and it bothers me when people go to the effort to pick out something like that and correct it when the piece of writing is perfectly understandable. It doesn't matter.

Ah, he sent me the same album. I sent you both different ones. Well...I was going to review that one first, but I'll give the Shoes bashing a rest and do the Steely Dan album you sent me. It should be up some time today.

Thanks for the review Mr. Schizo sir :thurab:

Anyone feel like evening out the nurabers for the next draw? Come on, you know you want to :D

I'm glad you like it! Stranger and Wasted are two of my favorites as well. As my computer is currently under repair, I've not been able to download the album you sent. I'll try to get you a review asap.

First Impressions

Anteater sent me 1995 by the band Screaming Headless Torso along with the description "I think you'll enjoy these guys quite a bit. They're a jazz fusion band with a lot of funk, energy and hip-hop sensibility, led by insanely talented guitarist David Fiuczynski and vocalist extraordinaire Dean Bowman. Great stuff!"

I'm still undecided on whether or not I'll keep it. I found them to be very much like the Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band album lucifer_sam sent me ages ago. Now not exactly sound wise, but in the sense that it was some good music, but left me feeling unsure of whether or not I'd listen to it again in a sober minRABet. I was perhaps not in the greatest minRABet yesterday when I was listening to it because I was suffering from lack of sleep, an empty stomach, and a bit too much sun so perhaps I didn't give it the attention it truly deserved. The one thing I really did like about the album was the fact that it could transcend so many different styles of music, but do it in a way that it sounded like the band did it all the time. When most artists try and do that transcend between genres they give off a rather mediocre experience, like trying to give two handjobs, a blow job, and DP at once(sorry best analogy I could come up with) but end up giving a rather bland experience for all parties. Screaming Headless Torso didn't give off that impression so already that shows how talented the musicians in the band are. I found myself enjoying their hip hop songs the most, they could lay down some really stellar beats. So I'll give this another listen later on in the week and will probably end up keeping it for those days where I feel like listening to something strange or I'm just fucked out of my mind I don't care what's playing in the background.

Meh, I've seen you posting about quite regularly lately so, what the hell, I'll let you in on this :thurab:

On another note, if I can't get my review done today then definitely by the weekend.

It's I review my album...

Dieselboy sent me this:

Cut Chemist
The Audience's Listening (2006)

I didn't know what to expect when Dieselboy sent me this album, though he was nice enough to give me a brief write up of the band. Still it was still an unknown territory.

The first time I heard the album, I loved it. I was surprised when I read in your review that this album wasn't as near as good as the one I sent you, cause it's a bloody good album! That album is mainly a mix of funk and hip hop, with bit of jazz, latino music, electronica, rap and samples of recordings and songs all chaotically merged together to make one single unit, an album perfectly mixed from start to finish. This album is made to be heard from start to listen, and I don't think any tracks can just be picked and listened to alone. It even reminded me of The Mothers of Invention's We're only in it for the money, which I consider it to be in my top 3 list of favourite albums, an album that always impressed me with its sublime mixing. The Audience's Listening was also a very impressive album, definitely a favourite.

As I noticed that I forgot to talk about how this album works for the theme, I guess it was all in these random sound bits added throughout the album, and of course all the those beats that just sucks you deep in the rhythm.
So thanks db for the album, definitely an album I wouldn't have checked out on my own.

KO's - Joyful Rebellion

I finally got around to writing a review for this. Sorry for the delay, things have been quite nuts the past month. Anways, Unrelenting sent me this enjoyable rap album. I mentioned I was just trying to get into rap as it is a genre I really have little experience with. He mentioned he usually recommenRAB this album to rap newbs and after the first listen, I could tell why. It really is rap for beginners. Not that that is bad...actually it is quite perfect for that, yet I feel it could still be enjoyable for just about anyone. The beats have a really good mix of different genres like acoustic, rock, reggae, jazz, and more. There is a balance of about 60% rap, 40% singing. Both are done quite well. I feel when it comes to rap I am ready for something a little more out there, but I am quite happy to have added this to my collection. 8/10.
