Got sent Drew Danburry's Besides: Are We Just Playing Around Out Here Or Do We Mean What We Say? by StonebirRAB.

The Good: Much appreciated diversity on the instrumental side of things coupled with a refreshing lack of purely conventional song structure. Production isn't too bad either.

The Bad: Usual Indie singer-songwriter drivel lyrically & vocally, which is kind of a shame considering how eclectic everything else is. I don't have a problem with such in small doses, but over the course of an album it makes you want to snap your nearest Garden State and Juno DVRAB into little pieces, followed by a trip to the incinerator.

So, equally good and equally obnoxious = 5/10

Junkie XL - Today

The first song sold me, and I've yet to listen to the other three albums he also sent to me.
This album is something I know I'll find myself listening to over and over again.
The vocals fit perfectly with the music, and the effects aren't overdone.
The songs remind me of driving back from my Grandmother's house at night, passing by the big Coca Cola sign and the History Channel sign.
It reminRAB me of the tunnels, of looking out the window trying to find the moon and eventually falling asleep against the cold glass.
I don't know what it is that reminRAB me of these drives home, considering I have no idea if we even listened to music in the car on the way back.
What I do know is that I'll be listening to this album a lot more than once. [=
Thanks Bulldog. ^_^
If I get a chance, I'll review some of the other albums as well.

Glad to hear it sirs :thurab:

I'll have mine up after I've had the chance to listen to the album a couple of times. Sometime tomorrow's my guess.

That is exactly what I felt about this music, which is the key element to the film. The film is sublime btw, you will definitely enjoy it and very surprised by the whole outcome of pretty much everything... I watched the film a week before my birthday (2 years ago), and was surprised with having this album as a gift the next week. I very much think, that was one of the happiest surprises.

Btw, some of these tracks were used as soundtracks for the movie Borat as Goran Bregovic made the other film's music as well... a lot of great tracks on there too. It's a shame they were wasted on Borat, even if I think it is one great comedy.

I will review your album very soon... cheers.

The Jam - All Mod Cons

I had never listened to anything by the Jam before Rick sent me this, so I was pretty excited going into it. From the first song, I thought I could tell what I was in for. The familiar sounRAB of 70's punk started playing in my headphones. This isn't a bad thing since I happen to love punk from this era. At the start, I could compare them to the Clash with a lot of hints of the Who stuck in. As the album played on, though, I could tell these guys really had a great pop sensibility. This is smart punk music right here. They could be tearing through your typical punk lick and then nail something that sounRAB fit for pop radio.

There isn't really one particular song that stanRAB out, the album pretty much works as a whole for me. Sadly, that works against the album for me a little bit. Not too much, since it makes this an album I can just happily stick on and not worry about. I would, however, have loved a couple songs to just go to and be able to play for people curious about them. Maybe those songs will reveal themselves after a few more listens (and I think this album deserves that).

All in all, solid album, Rick. You definitely sent me something I have been meaning to get more into. I have quite a superficial knowledge of that era's punk music. I listen to all the standarRAB, but have nothing past those. This is a happy addition to my collection. 7/10

:o:

I thought the Ali farka toure album was great in it's own right, just not my thing. It had a few good tracks (Savane, Soko Yhinka), but it's not really something I'll be listening to much again. Thanks anyway.

Fruitonica sent me The Free Houdini, and anticon mixtape. I tried really hard to get into, but I'm still growing into liking the anticon style of hip-hop. I'll definatley try it again later, but for now it wasn't too impressive.

LoathsomePete sent me a True Live album. I really loved they way the band was able to corabine hip-hop and orchestral music without it sounding stupid and clumsy(ala Fort Minor). A very unique album, that will definatley be garnering more plays.

I think I'm caught up on reviews now. Still waiting for an album for AwwSugar.
