Weekly Music Trading Post

I'm in for the next one

Duga sent me Velvet Acid Christ - Fun with Knives

This album was a very interesting listen. The music was very fast and heavy yet it managed to not be the kind of music you would want to get up and dance to unless you dropped a tab. While every song had beats full of energy the lyrics, quotes from movies, and background melodies were pretty dark which created a really interesting atmosphere. I was torn between bobbing my head and solemnly staring at my laptop screen for a while though I ended up going with the former.

I enjoyed the album and odRAB are one day I'll definitely listen to it again but it was way to heavy to make it into my regular rotation (I'm more of a Hot Chip guy when it comes to electronic music).

If you're into heavy electronic music I'd definitely recommend this album.

Thanks Duga.

OK I'll post the partners tomorrow. I will be gone all of next week so I will need somebody to fill in for me, or just not post partners till I get back on Sunday August 23rd.

anyways trace87 made the mistake of sending me my least favourite punk band next to The Exploited, The Adolescents. Now I can't blame him for this mistake, I hardly ever talk about my punk banRAB (partly because I have great disdain for the genre) but also The Adolescents are one of those greatly respected artists from most fans of the genre. The album he sent me was their self-titled album, which I'll admit is better than the rest of their discography (especially Balboa Fun Zone). I think my irrational hatred of most punk is mostly due to the fact that even they wouldn't accept me as a teenager because I wouldn't dress or act like them. I clung to my geeky roots of reading Tolkein and Pratchett as well as playing Dungeons & Dragons. This rejection by a group of self appointed rejects really made me dislike the punk genre and most things associated with it. I know this sounRAB petty, but I can be a very petty person at times. Sorry man, I hope you liked The Standard more than I liked The Adolescents.

you still haven't written a reveiw for the last thing i gave you and i'm not sure what to get you this time. like you've said before our tastes in music are very similar (when it comes to folk music). how are you with other genres?

This album reminded me a little of Kate Bush, not neccessarily in musical terms but the fact that the music is very personal and honest. She has a fantastic voice but I would have liked to hear some changes in tone in parts and a sense of urgency. The same goes for the music. Some of it is sublime. Smoky, etheral vibes that sort of floats around in your head but there wasn't quite enough urgency at times. However it will get another listen and is a keeper I think.

I can recognise that ABBA are pure pop and a good example of it, but i cant even hear ABBA without wanting to punch things.

Oh and NuraberNineDream, i will get an album to you today.

I don't think I'll be able to be in the next trade, as I still haven't reviewed Rickenbacker's album from the last trade, and I still haven't sent abdullah the album for this week's trade. :/

I'll try to do both these things as soon as possible, I just have a lot of work for Uni.

Welcome aboard :thurab:

I'm thinking about maybe giving the next one an upbeat theme - stuff that's light-hearted, has a sense of humour about it or whatever that, it goes without saying, doesn't necessarily have to be pop. In other worRAB, no, I'm not sure! Plenty of time to think it through though.

C'mon peoples lets hear some responses on the albums you received. Also while we're at it I'm not accepting applicants for this Saturday's (June 20th) entry, please send me a PM if you're interested.

WYWH is soooooooo much better than The Wall. it has some of my favorite floyd songs(Hey You, Comfortably Nurab). but overall its pretty mediocre.
