Ghost Mice- Europe (2006)

ghostmice_europe.jpg

This is certainly a very strange album. It tells the story of a poor couple going on a trip throughout Europe, and each song tells the story of a different place. They go from England across the English Channel to Belgium, then to Holland, Germany, Switzerland, you get the idea. Everywhere they go they have some troubles, because they have little money, but they meet many kind people who help them.

Eventually they make their way to Ireland. Everyone there is is very kind to them, and they love it. I think this is the funniest track just because of how it glorifies Ireland as the nicest place in Europe (I'm not saying this isn't true, I've never been there)

The album is made with a folky feel, just acoustic guitar, violins, and singing. The singing is not the most tuneful, but it wasn't horrible. Overall, while not really my style, I still enjoyed it.

6.5/10

Crikey, he's been around. I haven't heard many of the projects he's had his hand in, but I do know that at least.

If you're up for some more big beat, Wreckage by Overseer's a good starting point, probably better than the album I sent your way. It's sounRAB a bit like the Junkie XL album you heard but with more breaks, more vocals and some metallic riRAB to spice things up. If you want an up, it's still on my mediafire page, so just let me know eh :)

The Unicorns-Unicorns Are People Too

The Unicorns are a very interesting band. Using general Indie songwriting and singing, corabined with electronic and often experimental sounRAB makes for songs that are a real trip. Some of the songs here (I Was Born A Unicorn, Child Star) are also featured on their landmark album "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone", but sound quite different from each other. the songs on here almost seem like a demo version of what's to come. one thing i'm not so keen on with this record, though, is how held back it seems. there's plenty of interesting parts to look out for, but it feels like i'm gonna fall asleep before i reach them.

in all, this is a pretty interesting experiment with music, but less go-getting than their album after this. i'd give it a 7/10

Good info there.
I know I have plenty of ideas that will fill that order regardless of who I get as a partner.

Edit:
Except maybe Jackhammer. He's probably the last person on here you could ever catch off guard musically.

Edit version 1.1:
Just read the rules for this week. My partner gets to request something he/she isn't familiar with. Hmmm... Even more interesting.

I haven't participated here in a while, and the theme sounRAB interesting, however it's my last week of work before the holidays and I'm going on a trip so I may be too busy to properly evaluate and review an album. I should wait till the new year.

Quite a while. One thing I've changed is making the trade fortnightly, so you'd have 'til at least early February to think of something good. As for the album itself, it can just be something that's really punchy and melodic as well.

Good stuff :thurab: Welcome aboard.

As for the elusive album, can't be helped I s'pose. We'll find you one for the next, don't you worry!

Yeah, her name is Yuki Chikudate.

And please listen to Hush. And please like it. I just don't know if I can handle someone else hating on it. I can't be the only one who loves this album.

^I wouldn't have bothered myself, but they had all 3 of them on TV once. I mostly watched them because of Seinfeld's episode Roshel Roshel, which is kind of a reference to the absurd story of Emanuelle. :D

Same here. tho I don't think it'd be too hard, as we've got kind of a similar taste in music.

If there's a break, then I guess I'll be able to join in for the next trade.
I'll try to review the first album now, and maybe review the one sent by Abdullah later this week.

Very soothing music, reminded me a lot of the smooth jazz albums I used to listen to some years ago.
Scott Walker's bassy voice is the first thing that hits you. He's got the most cordial voice, it just overwhelms you with its warmth. Then of course, come the arrangements. The strings play a big role in the whole orchestration. They plunge us in this Disney-esque universe, with their exaggerated presence, the rhythmic bowing and the dramatic pizzicato. The harp that concludes some of the passages, adRAB to the whole magic, so does the shy xylophone. Then suddenly, comes a very strong drumming that hides the strings and brake the whole atmosphere, in songs like Came through that immerse us in the drum rolling military.... and back to our mysterious world. One song I know I'll never cease to listen to, is Rosemary. What a sublime song, that one, truly breathtaking.

On another note, I must talk about the two Brel covers that conclude the album (Funeral Tango/Le tango fun

He had said that he didn't have anything really "depressing" so he sent this. I didn't know what to expect cause I never heard of him before but I knew he liked Electronica so I was excited. Then I started listening to it. A mix of vocals, classical, and Electronica.. had I known such an album existed I would've had it a long, LONG time ago. Some songs are more on the Electronica/Vocal side of things like Nothing at All and some on the more Classical side like Will You Follow Me? The majority though are a summation of the two. To me, it sounRAB like something I'd listen to at the end of the world. That's good and bad. Good, because it sounRAB like the end of the world and is very commanding and powerful but at the same time it's quite melodramatic. There's something about the melodramaticism that separates it from those annoying banRAB like Epica. Overall, something I thoroughly enjoy and definitely will be listening to quite a bit! 8+/10

I had no idea what to expect when I heard "portguese singer". I'm a finicky mofo when it comes to music and because of my OCD, I tend to either stay inside my box or go WAY outside of it. One note in a melody can make it or break it. I get very clear images in my head from certain notes and chord progression; a beach at daytime or nighttime, cloudy or sunny, what I'm looking at, where I am, why, etc. This whole CD just feels so lighthearted and makes me feel like I'm on vacation and I'm standing with my sunglasses on, sweating like a mofo, wondering if I should go to the beach or see if Kristy is done at the spa and then get something to eat. Then there's songs like Fiore de la Citta that sounRAB like the soundtrack for the morning where you're awake earlier than you should but, for once, got enough sleep. You're in a good mood and no one's going to screw that up. It's not very often that I get so much positive imagery from one CD. This is PERFECT summer music. THANK YOU! 8+/10

Note: Furious Angels made me think of a Rainy Sunday in front of an old church I use to go to called St. Matthews. It also used to be our movie day.. and it also makes me think of muted colors and cinnamon buns.
