Weekly Music Trading Post

Anteater prevailed. He sent me The Gourishankar's 2nd HanRAB, some extremely progressive rock. There was classical, electronica, and hard rock thrown into this incredibly eclectic album. Brilliant album, thank you very much Anteater.

Estradasphere can be a tough band to get into your first time. I remeraber my older brother gave me that same album first and I went back to him with this perplexed look on my face and he just laughed.

so sorry for the delay

last trade i traded two albums with dankrsta....and have finally had my real introduction to 'kraut rock'....which actually made review both these albums a bit difficult due to the major influence they both have on probably 83% of what i listen to....i have no idea what has taken me so long to actually sit down and listen to these banRAB

album 1
Faust - Faust So Far
41.jpg
out of the two albums (this and Neu!) this one really caught my eye first....i can really see many banRAB getting inspiration for the layers of sound which seem to envelope the listener.....its almost as if time gets lost right at the beginning of 'It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl".....and then just morphs into the rest of the album....

everything i've read since listening to this album for the first time two weeks ago...is that this is basically their "commercial" album....i've decided not to listen to anything else by them until i wrote this....as to not take away from this album....and as i listen to it now....it probably one of the most experimental "commercial" albums i have ever heard....just the weird seaway from the opening, building craziness of the first track into the almost renaissance style guitar work of the second track ....and then the real feeling of the album starts with 'No Harm' (by far my favorite track on the album)...a perfect blend of psychedelic nonsense with actual groove and structure.....and then back into an almost 'CCR' style relaxing groove...which sets up beautifully for akward, almost frightening sound of 'Mamie Is Blue'....and then the last four somewhat short track almost seem like four different endings to a movie (like Clue)

this gets a damn near perfect 9.5/10

album 2
Neu! - Neu!
Neu.jpg

so i've been listening to each of these albums at least once a day for about two weeks....and originally it was Faust seemed to fit my mood....but i have to say that after two weeks the debut of Neu! has made it into my top 5 of all time....

for an album consisting of six somewhat lengthy songs....it has perfect flow and completely keeps my interest with each listen....a wonderful bled of noise, rock, structure and chaos all rolled into one....

i honestly can not express just how good i think this album is.....all of it is just sugar to my ears.....but most specifically Negativland.....which my trader had expressed as something that may take me by storm...(its playing right now :) )....from the first second this song senRAB shivers through my blood stream

a little weak of a review...but this album is 100% perfect in my opinion

so now i'll listen to their other releases :)

Stereophonics - Language. Sex. Violence. Other?
Got this one from WWWP, and I have to say it's a great introduction to this band. I had a really good time driving around listening to this album, it's loud and brash in the kind of way that I'm into. My only complaint is the lack of variety between songs, but it really doesn't matter because it's still a great listen. Pedal Pusher and Devil are probably my favorite off this album, definitely left me wanting more.

This is going a lot better than I first thought it would. Good stuff people. I should have a lot more time on my hanRAB from here on in, so it shouldn't be long before I get my review up.

Also, if anyone wants to take part in the next trade, just say so here. I don't think the next one will be themed...unless anyone particularly wants it to be.

Well, I'll see if I can record the trades from New Year's onward, give future additions to the list something to build on. Shouldn't take me too long. As I say, I'll see if I can figure out a way to get the list into this thread as well.

FaSho sent me The Ocean Blue - S/T, and I really liked it. I listened to it last night while driving, and the whole Dream-Pop thing seemed kind of enhanced by the darkness (not sure if anything I'm saying makes sense, I just woke up). I wish I could be in it this week, but I'm going to be away from my computer for most of this week so I can't.

@Bulldog
I wanted to write the review yesterday, but I still feel I need to listen to that album more times, to be able to know what I want to write.
Though I have to tell you, I loved the album.

**And put me in for the next trade (the theme looks relatively simple)...

Good save :D

I'm sure we'll get at least a few more sign-ups. I know people have their reasons, but it's a shame reviews have been so thin on the ground after two weeks.
