The Standard - Swimmer

You prefaced the album saying that you didnt really like most "indie" music. I can see why. I really couldn't find one redeeming quality about this album. Stereotypical "indie", with the added bonus of drowsiness! The vocalist drives me crazy too. Maybe recommend stuff from genres you are familiar with in the future. Im sorry but this must be done.

Did you ever listen to that album I sent you?
I never did get a chance to listen to one you sent me but I listened to a couple of his works.
I suppose I could review that much if you'd like. =D

I've nearly sent this to someone ive been paired with a few times in the past and i very nearly sent it this week too. Such a great record. One of my personal favourites.

I think we'll start the next trade on Wednesday (not today) if we have enough names.

The Abominable Human tried sending me Three's "The End is Begun."

I didn't get to actually upload it, but instead I looked for as many songs by the band as I could on YouTube. I have to admit, they aren't as good as I primarily hoped they would be, but some of their songs are ones I would definitely keep listening to. The reason he sent me the album is because he knew I liked Coheed and Carabria, which I do say, they sound a but similar to. Had Claudio been in a different band when he was younger, it might have sounded like this.

Over some of the songs are ones I would be interested in downloading on my own. [=

PMO sent me Phantasia by Japanese math-rock band Lite

When I first listened to it, I didn't know what to think. I was overwhelmed by the complex (and most of the time in your face) intrumentation. I left it alone for awhile and went back to it, gave it all of my attention.
Like most albums with me, it was infinitively better the second time around.

Starting this album off with a bang is "Ef", a jerking, guitar-driven ride; this track gives a strong hint that this is one of the more jagged and rough math-rock albums out there.
My second-favorite track, "Infinite Mirror", is a fantastic jam. My favorite part of the album is the build-up halfway through where all of the band is playing eighths, the high-hat slowly releases, and the whole thing explodes.
My favorite track, however, is the closer-"Sequel to the Letter". I'm not sure what it is about this track that I'm so fond of. Maybe because there is such a different mood to this song. Other songs seem to portray loneliness, anger, and melancholy. "Sequel to the Letter" however is sweet, like a teenage love.

Right now, I'll give this album a 7/10, however, since this album seems to get better with each listen, it may soon bump up to an 8.

Carl Stalling - The Carl Stalling Project: Music from Warner Bros. Cartoons 1936-1958

Haha, wacky?! Crazy?! What the fuck?! Obviously, I do recognize some of these and it still sounRAB fresh. I wouldn't necessarily give this repeated plays, but it's certainly an interesting first two listens so far. I think it's more or less self explained by the title - Music from Warner Bros. Cartoons 1936-1958. I'm not even sure how to rate such a recording. I'll edit this post after another listen :).

You didn't do so bad, considering it was your first go at the genre and all :)

Now, let's see what my present was...

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Drippers EP

I picked this one out of the selection +81 offered me simply because I liked their name. Often it's musical garables like that which are very rewarding for folk like me, and this EP was no exception to that rule. Seeing as I chose these guys at random, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. What I ended up with was a fascinating 9-track EP with an electronic core and psychedelic vocal effects and reverb along with chillout vibes. The result is an experiment which to these ears really worked. While I tend to prefer livelier rhythms these days, this was still a very good album indeed and certainly something I'd recommend as well.

All in all, top stuff. Cheers

Choice tracks: Black Yoghurt, One Day I Had An Extra Toe, Just For the Night [BMSR Remix]
