As it happens, I have quite a lot of work to be doing in time for Monday (just having a quick break from it at the moment), so I don't think we'll kick the next trade off 'til early next week.

Anyone else who's thinking about joining in, we can never have too many traders, so no need to fret over that.

it says the only band we have in common is sufjan stevens and Minus the bear (1 official listen so far)

so i'll just send you an Alternative Folk album... (sounRAB nothing like sufjan stevens though.)

Damn, forgot all about this thread! Sorry folks, but this week's been a busier one than usual, so you'll have to bear with me for a few days. I'll get my review done when I can too.

Anyone who wants in on the next (unthemed) trade, let me know and I'll start taking names down. Should get things moving again by the weekend.

Again, sorry for the delay!

Good laRAB :thurab: I've edited you both into the list.

This album Dreadnaught sent me is pretty damn cool. I'll get cracking with a paragraph or two on it in a bit...

I've got a few erranRAB to do tomorrow morning, so I'll be pairing everyone up in the late afternoon/evening (GMT), so if anyone else wants in, now's your time to say so!

Ah man, I forgot to mention that Pobody's Nerfect gave me the album. Also that I needed to have the review before Saturday. I thought it said on Saturday. Daaaaamn.

Wait, could I still sign up or not?

I guess if no more pm's come in tonight I will go ahead and post partners tomorrow so everyone will have a one day head start. Anyone who is late, sorry but the early bird gets the "legally" downloaded album.

Emilie Autumn - Opheliac (2006)

I got this one from my homey FaSho, and I apologise to him in advance...
I don't want to sugarcoat it because that would be bullsh*tting: apart from a few saving graces I pretty much hated this album.
Strong worRAB, so let me explain. Emilie Autumn uses her obvious classical training to peddle a strange and initially intriguing mix of industrial beats, baroque instrumentation, gothic cabaret stylings (see above) and angsty whining.

And here we come to my main bone to pick with Miss Autumn, she clearly knows the ropes and on a couple of tracks where the cringe-worthy lyrics and Trent Reznor-esque vocal distortion don't overwhelm it, she has a great voice (the title track in particular)...
However her musical expertise are used in a manner not at all compatible with my tastes. It's all as cynically contrived as you'd expect any music defined by it's adolescent malcontent yet made by a 29-year-old to be; with tracks like 'the Art of Suicide' and 'Misery Loves Company'... Unfortunately at my age I just can't take it remotely seriously.

In fact it takes me back to a magical time, a time before anybody had heard the word 'emo' and goths were the target of people's ire with their excessive make up, all-black wardrobe, angst-ridden music scenes and general self-indulgence. In that sense at least it was quite nostalgic and at least goths, as a youth tribe, had a proud musical heritage and were a bit less vain... right?

But that's what this album brought me back to, and despite their being the occasional glimmer of hope for it musically, everything else just made my toes curl. This is not a slight on FaSho who is a very cool dude and not a goth, with an even cooler music collection for someone his age (when I was that young I think all I had were a couple of pop hits cassettes) - I am just being annoyingly honest about with my opinion of this one. Sawwy!

Two banRAB I am not an expert on but would recommend in place of this - Nine Inch Nails and Dresden Dolls, Emilie Autumn seems to be loving them.

Links? I love Pierre Bachelet, and Emanuelle's theme song written by him. And actually Emanuelle is one of the greatest porn movies that were shown on the big screen. It then made some kind of French porn revolution.

Edit: Just remerabered, Emanuelle 3's theme song, was written by Gainsbourg. But the movie was ****.
And they prefer the term "Erotic Films" to Porn.
