Just say "No".

Their wedding day is the single most important day in a couple's life right up to the birth of their first child. An event this important should not be trusted to someone with a simple digicam.

If you'd like to see how professional wedding photographers work, pick up the Feb. issue of Rangefinder Magazine. Its devoted to wedding photography.

Lose your ego and tell your coworker and the young lady that you are a simple amateur and they should hire a professional photographer. Offer to bring your camera and mingle with the guests and take some candid pictures. Just make sure you don't interfere with the real photographer. Give them a CD of the pictures you take and don't even think about asking for money. Your pictures can be a wedding present.

Edwin's response is right on. This is a once in a lifetime special occasion and you should not use their wedding as a "learning experience." Merely excuse yourself from consideration and say, that you lack sufficient knowledge and experience to go forward with this assignment. And thank them for considering you. It's that simple.

Good luck!

A coworker friend of mine likes my photography, as does a young lady who has seen my photography as well. They would like me to photograph their wedding as well as post engagement photographs. No, I am not a pro nor do I own a dslr. My coworker friend does not want the usual kind of wedding photography, but rather she desires something more personal. How much should I charge them? The first wants only digital photos while the second would like both digital and film. This will be an exciting experience for me, a first, and I need some real good input. Thank you.

Ask them what their budget allows and what pics they want u to take. make sure Everything is in writing (the pics they want you to take, how many pics are included in your price, etc.) If you take a whole bunch of pics then maybe they can choose a certain amount that will be on film or maybe you can just give them a cd and they can develop them.

If you do not know what to charge, then you are ill equipped to handle a job such as this.

Edwin is 1000% correct.
