On friday we lost one of our two dogs, now my other dog (who has lived his whole life with the dog we lost) won't stop whining. I feel bad for him, what can I do to help him?
All you can do is reassure him. Maybe a little extra petting time and some soft talking. He might not understand your words but he will know your tone.It is hard when a member of the pack is gone, he might even get alittle depressed. As the alpha leader show compassion. If the other dog is not found he will eventually get over it.
Don't rush out and get another dog. Dogs are like humans they need to grieve too. I would comfort him, but don't play into it so much that you cause additional anxiety. Give him some time. He will let you know when it is time to get another companion. And when the time is right, let him have a say so. Dogs can be resentful.
