Oven roasted! Clean the asparagus, then lay them down on a cookie sheet with a drizzle of olive oil, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. roast them in the oven at 350 for 5 minutes, flip them over, and cook for another 5. Delicious!!!

ASPARAGUS ROLL UPS

1 dozen asparagus spears, trimmed
12 slices provolone cheese
12 thin slices prosciutto
4 fresh cloves garlic, finely minced
2-3 tablespoons fresh parsley, minced
2 tablespoons Parmesan
2 tablespoons fresh basil
1/2 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
pinch of hot red pepper flakes (optional)

Trim asparagus and discard tough ends. Steam or boil asparagus in 3/4 inch of salted water for about 5 minutes. Drain well.

In a food processor, finely chop garlic, parsley, Parmesan and basil. (Add a small pinch of hot red pepper flakes, if desired). Process to a spreadable paste, leaving some small chunks.

Spread inside each cheese slice with the paste, using enough to coat generously. Roll 1 slice cheese tightly around each asparagus. Roll each with a slice of prosciutto and refrigerate until ready to serve.

The best way is to use an asparagus cooker.
It looks like a coffee percolator with a wire basket inside.
The stalks stand upright in a little water & steam to perfection.
Failing that, you can lay them flat in a steamer basket.
I've also cooked them in a little water in a fry-pan.

you could steam it, in either the microwave, in a partially sealed container, or in a sauce pan on the stove. You could boil it, in the same manner, or, I prefer to roll roast it in the oven. Spread about 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a sheet pan and roll a pound of asparagus spears in the oil to coat. Place in a 350 oven for about 6 minutes. This makes the asparagus have a sweet taste and is very good.
