Water in the surroundings of a system cools. What happens to the system?

Just a little bit confused about system/surroundings. So, thinking of a calorimeter, water in the surroundings of a system cools. (As a side note, this would mean a negative deltaH value, correct?)

If this water in the surroundings were to cool, is the reaction in the system endo- or exothermic? Why? Like, what's going on here? Just a little confused :(

Thanks in advance!!
