Water in Hydrates for General Chemistry?

When dealing with something like this:
CuSO4-5H2O and you add heat to it, will it always look like this in balanced form:
CuSO4-5H2O--->CuSO4+5H2O

I am asked to balance a few more equations like this, will they all pretty much be the same except for a dot on the left side it becomes a plus sign? (A sign that the water separates from the other substance) It hardly seems like an equation that needs to be balanced. How will I be able to tell problems like these apart from say, a single replacement equation?

this is a physical decomposition
replacement looks like
A + BX ---> AX + B

sometimes the coefficient for water is fractional which would need to be resolved when balancing

How many liters of bullsh*t are there in one mole of chemistry?
answer: I don't know.

(Sorry if I'm not very helpful, I got an 86 on my chem regents and now I plan to dump everything in my head that was chem-related)
