Watchmen: variations.

How many versions of Watchmen are there?
The first one I saw (from dubious sources) contains the murder of Hollis Mason, the second has the murder and a cameo from BSG's Felix (plus a few other additions), the retail version doesn't have either sequence.
Was Mason's murder in the cinema release version?

So by paying I get less. What a con.

Actually, assuming that 155 mins is the UK cinema version, there are three versions, 162 mins, 186 mins and 155 mins., so I suppose the 162 mins. is the US cinema release.

The US media companies must spend their free time thinking up ways to short change us every time we buy something from them.

If your dvd is 155 minutes then it will be the same as the 162 minute version available at the cinema and on US discs due to PAL speedup.

The US Bluray of the directors cut is region free and is available for

Not necessarily. We simply don't have a choice of versions in the UK. The US has both versions (Director's and Theatrical) to choose from.
As per above, only two versions. PAL dvRAB simply play a bit faster than NTSC.

Now I get it.

No Hollis' murder in the 155 minute retail version (which is the UK cinema release).:)

He meets his end in the 162 minute director's cut.

Which leaves the 186 minute version, whatever that is.

Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff I didn't know existed.

No, no, no, lol.

The 155 minute version is exactly the same as the one that runs 162 minutes. The time difference is due to PAL speedup when the film was converted from film to DVD (the Blu Ray remains at 162 minutes as PAL speedup isn't an issue on High Def formats). This is the 'Theatrical Cut' (the only version available on UK DVD/Blu Ray) and doesn't feature the death of Hollis Mason.

The 186 minute version is the 'Directors Cut' and is only available in the US, it is this version that features Hollis Mason's demise as well as a bunch of other added/extended scenes.

Comprende? :)
