I've just looked on Amazon and it doesn't look like we're getting the much anticipated 'Directors Cut' like the US. The runtime is listed as 163 minutes as opposed to the US versions 188 minutes (which also says Directors Cut on the case).

What a load of BS:mad:
 
Get the Region 1 edition if you can, if you can't play other regions, what are you doing!!

Seeing it at the cinema was more than enough for me, one of the most disappointing films of the year for me.
 
Interesting.

I've just had a look at play.com and they list the DVD at 155mins and the Blu-ray at 161min.

CDWOW has the DVD at 100mins. :eek:

Suggest that at the moment retalers don't know for sure which version is being released.
 
You can get a lovely blu ray steelbook edition, 190 minutes long from Canada.

Also, UK HMV have a special edition head shaped character case for the blu ray edition. Like they did with Iron Man, and The Dark Knight.
 
Paramount Home Entertainment have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Watchmen on 27th July 2009. Zack Synder directs this live-action adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

The rear of the Blu-ray case for the US Director's Cut shows a run time of 186 minutes.

The US Blu-ray will likely be region free as it's from Warner which hasn't so far regionally coded its Blu-ray discs. If you can get a cheap US copy, it will probably be worth the import.
 
US retailers aren't getting stock for at least another 3 weeks as far as I know, so nobody knows yet if the BR disc is definitely region free.

It's up to you to take the risk if you want to.
 
I'm waiting until after it's been released, i'd rather be sure it's going to play on my PS3. I'd rather pay a bit extra after release and be sure that it's going to pay rather than order it at the pre-order price and be stuck with a Blu Ray that wont play.

Apparently we're not getting the Directors Cut in the UK because of the rights issue that plagued the films original release. Warner has the rights to the DC whereas Paramount (who distributed it over here) only has the rights to the Theatrical Cut.
 
Anyone with a PS3 and a fast net connection can of course wait another week or two before visiting the usual sources for a Blu-ray rip of the US director's cut in MKV format.

It will be a huge file size though. Given the length of the film, I wouldn't want to watch it if the file size was less than 6GB.
 
The DVD rip of the non-director's cut is now available from the usual sources.

Sat through it all last night. Not being familiar with the source material, it all passed me by a bit, but it was enjoyable for what it was. Given that the comic was supposedly unfilmable, the film was surprisingly coherent. But how much of the source was compromised for that to happen, I don't know.

Given the length of the film, it did manage to hold my attention which was a major bonus. But I can see why it didn't do great business at the box office.
 
My feeling is that it would have done a lot better at the BO if released around now, but they were too scared of Terminator Salvation and Transformers 2 AND it had already been delayed somewhat so it HAD to come out then.
