The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the United States government responsible for providing postal service in the United States. It is one of the few government agencies explicitly authorized by the United States Constitution. Within the United States, it is commonly referred to as the "Post Office", "Postal Service", or "U.S. Mail".

but he also thinks the government is in a conspiracy with pharmaceutical companies to kill people for no reason what so ever.

When he is strictly a comedian, yes, i'd agree. But that's a good 10% of the show. New rules is a great segment. Has been for many years. I get tired of hearing the same things preached Ad nauseam week-in, week-out. His moderation of the panel could not be worse either. He allows certain guests to gerrymander the topics and doesn't get to hear all viewpoints. There was a really interesting person on in the past few weeks. A Muslim woman who came to the U.S. and wrote about her experiences. I don't think he went to her once. Like I said, I like the show enough to still watch it but there are aspects that I wish were better and lived up to his old show. Even earlier seasons of this show were much more unbiased and moderated much better.

I used to love Bill Maher's stuff. His HBO special called Be More Cynical was fucking cracker jack. His new specials are puke. He laughs at his own jokes constantly and he's gotten way soft and his jokes are nowhere near as savvy as they once were.

The post was considered like the roads, it was the only way to communicate, essential service infrastructure for business.

That's still the justification, but it's weakened by all the other ways to communicate.

Here, this is a better breakdown of his idiocy: http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=1251

I love how Hitchens says all the idiots in his audience will boo him, and then the audience boos him. do they not see what they just did?

he makes exactly the point I was making earlier. It's become a show of codeword bashing. "George Bush" "sarah palin" "halliburton" "legalize marijuana" and others all just make the audience loudly erupt in cheers. It's quite obnoxious if you are trying to get any semblance of a real dialogue.

The problem is that government officials see themselves as architects of a whole system, their goal is to maximize some arbitrary metric like GDP or the like, to them they don't even think about fair.

It's like playing sim city and bulldozing a neighborhood, you don't think about whether or not you have the right to do it, only if its going to increase the efficiency of your city.

and people who complain about the oil companies, calling them evil. then dont buy anything with plastic, dont drive your car, its impossible to live our lives the way we know it without petroleum products, and you can't just miracle that shit out of the ground

I don't agree with him on everything, but I love his show.
And he's not like Beck, because he actually rags on Obama and other dems.

Not so much. You have the comedy segments but the discussion are generally of a serious tone, with a few light-hearted jokes inserted here and there.
