Pretand you are a citizen of Virginia living in the late 1700s. Write a letter to president washinton demanding that the slave trade be abolished.
Thx very much. ^_^

Honorable General Washington
How Can we proclaim that that this is a Land of Liberty when he hold a quarter of our citizens in bondage because of the color of their skin. How can we ignore our Chritsian heritage & Teachings and enslave people and mark my words we are talking about people despite the argument put forth by Thomas Jefferson that they are merely property. Both the trafficking in N^gro Slaves and the vile practice of Slavery ought to be abolished and only a man of your prestige could ensure that both of the evils end here in America.

(That is my take on it - - - you should read a few letters from that era to get the rhtymn & jargon down - - - note Abolishing the Slave Trade was one issue actually Owning SLaves was a seperate matter!!) And yes the Issue of Slavery was of Concern WAY Before the Missouri Compromise. Upon his Death Washington was concerned about freeing his own slaves as were many others. Slavery was an ACTIVE ISSUE at the time.

PS I just have to throw in a counter argument - - - since you say the SLAVE TRADE then - - - -
Honorable General Washington
Why whould we Proud Virginians aid those foul Yankee Traders trafficking in SLaves when we can breed Slaves here in Virginia? We do not need to import ignorant Africans when here in Virginia our N^gro women are quite capable of providing a surplus of slaves. Why should New Englanders get rich importing Slaves when we have more than enough Slaves here already? If we approach the breeding of Slaves scientifically there ought not to be shortage of Slaves and hence no need to import them.

First of all, If I were living in Virginia and a Torey, I'd ask President Washington if I would be safe or have safe passage to another country. I probably want to know if I could take my slaves with me. If I were a Virginia Patriot and owned slaves, I probably would not have written Washington and gone on with what I was doing before The Revolution.

The slave issue really didn't come up again until Congress wanted to admit Missouri as a state (circa 1830) which was settled with the Missouri Compromise.
