Wasted Potential

Sorry for going off-point for a second, but I've read statements like the above before, and I really must ask this: what is it that so many people find so great about Gorgonzola? Sure, he's occasionally funny, but I don't get why so many people talk as if he's one single best characters on the show. I don't see how he's any better than any other character on Chowder. What is it about Gorgonzola that so many people find appealing? Not dissing, I genuinely would like to know.

Back on-point, I'm afraid that I must co-sign's chdr's assessment of Chowder; that's precisely how I feel about the show now. Season 1 was great, but everything just started going progressively south after that.

THANK YOU!

This.

I've gotten so sick of people who are so quick to bash Drawn Together but defend Family Guy as a "smart funny show".

Drawn Together had a certain style to it that few shows have had, it really pulled no punches and was extremely razor toothed in its over the top satire.

Add to the fact, the series was ALWAYS unpredictable, something that's extremely rare to find in any series. It almost always ended on a completely different surreal note. For the series all time genius, I would point you towards the "After School Special" episode.

The series did rely on gross out gags quite frequently but if you're able to watch Family Guy and laugh your butt off, you should be able to look past the gross gags in Drawn Together and find some pretty clever and hilarious writing.

It seems most of the people who pour hate on this series stopped watching after the poorly written and forced first season.

I'm glad someone else had the nerve to stick up for the series, I usually don't even bother defending it because people try and bash on it as if it was written by frat boys.

And whoever declared it the "Friedberg/Seltzer" version of animated comedies, you couldn't be further from the truth. Most of Drawn Together's humor came from the characters themselves, if you want to dump a poorly named claim on a series, a series like current Family Guy would be more fitting.

I don't think that you're the only person left who likes Pokemon exactly the way it is. I feel the same way about the series. I love it for what it is. I don't think that I ever thought that we would see Ash becoming a Pokemon Master when it first started. I thought that it would be over after the Indigo League for some reason, but I was clearly wrong. I doubt that Ash will be leaving anything soon. I think that it helps that they change the cast with every new saga and that he gets a new Pokemon team as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Ash didn't stop exploring even if he did become a Pokemon Master. He obviously loves to explore different regions and challenge himself with new leagues. Besides, from the champions we have seen in the series, including people who have won the Grand Festivals, they still travel around, trying to grow even more as trainers.

That's a good point. Even if they replaced Ash, he would have the same kind of attitude and most likely would have his own Pikachu. It would feel just about the same in the long run. Considering that they've kept him for over ten years, I seriously doubt that they'll get rid of Ash myself.

I agree with you about Sinnoh and Kanto. Sinnoh and Hoenn have brought out some of the best episodes of the series for me. One aspect of wasted potential during Kanto for me was how they rushed the first six gym battles in thirty episodes, most of which were cheap/pity wins as well. It would have been nice to see a better way to see Ash grow from a rookie to a slightly more experienced trainer by actually winning more than three or four badges in an actual battle. It also would have been really cool if they had done something with Sliph Co, but maybe they didn't want to focus too much of Team Rocket outside of the usual trio.

While I don't remember that much of Johto outside of the later part of the saga, I agree that they could have done a much better job of the pacing, especially during Johto League Champions.

I personally think that Chaotic has some wasted potential. While the past two seasons have been much better for the series, it feels like they could focus a bit more on the creatures' lives in Perium and less on the kids battling the card game. Of course, the main purpose of the show is to promote the card game, but I think that they could still do that with the kids and monsters having more active roles more often. It also would be nice to see the world of Perium explored/explained a bit more too.

I dunno, I still like it after watching the first DVD volume. I will say this though: I remembered that Darkwing was arrogant, but dang, I didn't remember that his arrogance was a major plot point in every single episode!

As for Goof Troop, mentioned on page one: I always preferred Goof Troop to Tale Spin and Duck Tales when I was a kid. Weird.

I'll say Chaotic. It has such a potential for a deep, rich world full of varied landscapes, creatures, civilizations, and mechanics that could easily put other fantasy shows like Avatar, He-Man, and WITCH to shame. Unfortunately, it's all arbitrary to the whole card game aspect. I realize it's a show to sell cards, but when most of the episodes involve them playing a random match with a one-shot character, it just has so much wasted potential. If they wanted to focus on a more tournament structure with the Perim activities in the background, that would also be okay, but they only mention battling Codemasters a handful of times throughout the series. It becomes even more apparent if you read the lore of the card game and realize just how great a show set in that world could be.

Gonna go with Huntik and Alien Force as well.

I liked Huntik, but the pacing was absolutely horrible and its overuse on stock footage was very off-putting. They also rushed through important developments and generally had a feeling of not knowing what exactly it wanted to be.

Alien Force could've been a chance to expand on the Ben 10 universe, but the series just seemed to waste more time and completely deconstructed everything that happened in the original series. I only really kept watching because Kevin made me laugh with his awkwardness.
