The service engine light has been on since a friend lent me the vehicle. I figured since I'm using it I could give it a good cleaning. And so I took it to the manual car wash place and turned the ignition off and popped the hood. I've seen a lot of guys wash the engines of their trucks there at the car wash before so I figured mine should be fine. Well i washed the engine first and then i closed the hood and continued to wash the rest of the vehicle normally. I was there about 20 - 30 minutes and it started up alright. When I went to drive down the highway to visit a friend I got to 80 km/h and it started feeling a bit odd. Excuse the bad example but it was 'putt-putt-putt-ing" and it wouldn't go any faster. Then the service engine light started flashing so I pulled over immediately. After a minute the light would stop and then the engine sounded fine again. Tried again and the same thing happened so I came home parked it and now here I am.

Any suggestions would help. I'm gonna be in big poo if i can't fix this before the owner finds out.

I dont really know what it could be but want to tell you I was advised to let the engine runnig while washing it and let it run long enough to dry everything off. Maybe wait till you have the rest done that way you can leave and it should be dry till you get home
