Was this an example of govt. run health care?

A woman at the town hall meeting with Obama complained about being unemployed and stricken with cancer. She said she had no insurance coverage to pay for her medical bills. Of course Obama was sympathetic (as most of us are).
However, if she is poor, doesn't she have Medicaid? And if she is permanently disabled, doesn't Medicaid cover her there also? Isn't this govt. run health care at it's best? Isn't this what Obama wants to force on all of us?

Here's where Obama messed up. Why didn't she have health care BEFORE she got cancer? You can't get health care with a pre-existing condition, even with Universal.

They have plans out there for only $70 a freakin month, I used to sell it!

No dear. The impoverished people DO, generally, qualify for medicaid. That isn't the problem. Millions of people fall between poverty and the middle class....making them ineligible for medicaid, but also unable to pay the high premiums, co-pays, and deductables of health care. I don't know this woman's situation, so I can't comment on her personally, but if she wasn't eligible for medicaid due to losing her job, she likely would have to wait for a review board to determine her eligibility based on disability. These boards often take up to 2 years to hear cases. If she lost her job due to her cancer, it is likely that she wasn't able to pay for Cobra or another private plan. Thus, NO HMO out there will cover preexisting cancer patients, as their goal is to make money, not pay out to customers who have serious, life threatening illnesses.
