Was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil meant to be in the Garden?

Adam was told he could eat of every plant in the Garden of Eden but not the Tree of Knowledge....
This tree is also missing in the book of Revelations. The Tree of Life is mentioned but not the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Is it possible that this tree was planted by Satan, since eating its fruit would lead to death?
