Was the Tree of Life already in the Garden before the Fall?

Had God put the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden at the same time as the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil?
And why?
If He had intended Adam and Eve to never know death, why did there have to be a Tree of Life?
What did He need it for originally, especially since He was the giver of life Himself?
