Was the so-called Emperor system utilized by the Meiji constitution truly unique?

The claim made by the Meiji oligarchs was that Japan's kokutai (polity) was defined by an unbroken line of emperors for over 2,000 years and was the basis of Japanese nationalism.

But was it really that unique? If you think about it in terms of European nationalism it was simply the particular aspect of Japanese culture they chose to run with, bushido or even Japanese aesthetics could have just as easily worked, right?
