Was NASCAR Chase for the Nextel/Sprint Cup championship a bad idea?

actually work for nascar, as an official. so i would like to 1st off say that i am tired of all these conspiracy theories about "favorites", its utter nonsense. every team goes through the same inspections every week. chad knaus actually does not have the worst rep in nascar, another less high profile crew chief holds that title, only people tend to hear more about chad due to the fact that it is a high profile team. trust me, if chad was really as shady as fans tend to argue he is, he would not be chosen to speak for and represent a crew chief perspective in several shows including "nascar performance" and "nascar now" all i hear is fans complaining about the chase, and that the 48 team would not win under the "old" format. well here is a tip, the 48 team tailor's their strategies to fit the chase format, where if they were racing under the old format(which is gone and never coming back, so get over it already its been several years gone) they would tailor there stategies to that format and i would not be surprised to see them take some titles under that system. the cream always rises to the top, point blank. and nobody complained when mark martin was dominating at the beginning of the chase. stop hating and being mad just because dale jr. is mediocre at best.

Here is the problem I have with people saying "the chase ruined Nascar", and " Johnson is taking advantage of the system". That's a bunch of crap. Look at what the chase brings to the table, top 12 guaranteed a spot in the post season. If you were to go back to the old point system 10th 11th or 12 place drivers would be practically eliminated by July or August. Its like having a football season and only having 3 or 4 teams play for the S.B. You would need 12, 13 wins to even have a chance at the playoffs, forget the fight for the final 2 wild card spots.. The beauty of the chase is that it gives 8 or 9 drivers a chance to win a championship that would not have a chance in the old system. In the final 2 or 3 races as you get to the chase its a battle to get in, I think that it is exciting to watch 4 or 5 drivers battle it out to get the final spots. I go back to the football reference, nobody finds 4, 5 teams fighting for 2 wild card spots exciting? So how is Nascar different on that respect. Look lets face it Johnson will not win every championship it is not possible. What if your driver was in 10th, 11th, or 12th place wouldn't you like to see him get a chance to win a championship? Well in the old system you have to run consistent for 36 races, a few bad races and your toast. In the new system you can have a few bad weeks in the regular season and still get in. I think everybodys gripe is, is the fact that Johnson keeps dominating in the chase, well what if Johnson or any other driver didn't dominate in the chase , we would not be having this discussion right now.

I think it is, because the season should be decided for an entire season, not for 10 races. Jimmie Johnson would be making history this weekend, by becoming the first driver to win four championships in a row. If the old system was in place, Jimmie will likely get his second Cup title. They should go back to the old system, because one driver is taking advantage of this new system.
