My guess is that it has become apparent that John Wilkes Boothe was Jewish. It's something they didn't want everyone to know. Now that it is well known they need to make him a hero by claiming he killed the racist Lincoln and if he hadn't the blacks would be gone now. They always find magic documents to help their cause.
