I had a check engine light issue and was told by a few different places it was probably my spark plugs and wires. I ended up paying $200 to replace those ... didn't fix the problem. No biggie. Figured i'd bite the bullet and pay for a diagnosis.
Went to Midas payed $80 for diagnosis. They called and said it was my ignition coil. I had them fix the coil. He also said he'd take off $20 for the diagnosis since I was getting it fixed also. Went to pick up my car . It came to $319. It was 4:50 pm when I told them to fix it. They called at 5:56 pm and said it was done. When I got there my car was sitting outside covered in snow and ice like it had been out there awhile. They charged me $60 for diagnosis. $150 in labor. $150 for the part. $19.50 in shop supplies and $19.50 in taxes for a total of $319. That's with the $20 he (supposedly) discounted me. I looked on my autozone app and they had the part for $65 autozone is directly across the street from this Midas. I feel like I got terribly ripped off for a relatively easy job that probably took no more than a half hour at the most.
Should I go back up there and demand some money back? Even if I paid 60 diagnosis, 100 for the part, 50 labor, 25 tax thats 235 which seams more reasonable. I feel like they got me for at least $170 that I desperatly needed right now. What should I do? Did they charge me correctly? Thanks for any help.
