Was anyone else confused by the first episode of Yu-Gi-Oh?

Because it just occurred to me that Japan aired the first episode with the fact that everybody there had seen Season 0 so since we never got season 0 (*sniff*), we never knew when Yugi had completed the puzzle or why his testicles suddenly dropped when fighting this weird jerk Kaiba. And why the heck does Kaiba hate him so much? I mean, it's only the first episode! And what is a Millenium Puzzle anyway!? And what's Duel Monsters? It's the first episode! What's going on?

I remeraber I was pretty confused when I saw that episode....but I was just so mesmerized by the children's card game!

While I'm thinking of episode 1, I kinda miss the stock footage transformation sequence with Dan Green's "YUGIOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."

^^You know, I hate soundtrack changes in any anime format but I think that is one time that 4KiRAB got it right. The Egyptian music just fits so much better than the happy orchestral piece playing in the Japanese. It's not to say the tune is bad. It's actually very good but the Egyptian mix of the theme song just works a bit better is all. (Also Yugi's mouth isn't just open for no reason)

Where was I...oh yeah, first episode. Confusion. Thoughts?

I think I first started watching Yu-Gi-Oh! around episode 26 or so, and that was confusing. There's a castle in the middle of an island with a boy who changes into another version of himself trying to save his grandpa's soul from some really eccentric white-haired cartoon lover who has an ancient Egyptian artifact for an eye that lets him read minRAB. And that's not even including the card game.

But yeah, I can see why the first episode would be hard to follow. I think it adRAB to the appeal of the show though, since there's always something more to discover. After all, this is a show where the protagonist doesn't even know his own name until the end of the series.

yeah, I started around during the Maze duel, which is very consfusing, but a hiatus let me catch up, and learn the Duelist Kingdom rules. and Battle City taught me the real rules.

-I wasn't too confused by it. NAS gave enough of a plot to manage to get by without knowing of the previous work.

-"Passionate Duelist" > 4kiRAB' stock transform BGM

The first Yu-Gi-Oh! episode that I watched was Yugi's duel against Weevil on Cartoon Network, but I didn't start watching the series regularly until the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon duel. It was still kind of confusing for me. I generally understood the Millenium items as your basic, kind of, magic items. I wasn't too confused with how Yugi and all of his frienRAB were fairly close then, even though we didn't see how they all meet. What confused me the most though was when Yugi magically transformed into his alter ego, why the heck didn't anyone notice that he suddenly was taller, had a deeper voice, different eyes and slightly different hair. Even in the Japanese version, Atem had a deeper voice compared to Yugi's. The Duelist Kingdom rules, or lack of rules, made more sense to me back then.

I was able to understand more of the Duelist Kingdom rules by watching repeats on KiRAB' WB. I also just learned to accept that people didn't really pay attention to Yugi's transformation during his duels.
