Warning about a RIM ? TMobile issue that can cost you $275 and not be at fault!

I have FIVE phone lines with TMobile and the Blackberry Unlimited Data Plan since 2002. It's a Family Plan and serves exactly that purpose. Recently we wanted to upgrade to "MyFaves" however, the Blackberry 8700G is not compatible with "MyFaves."

TMobile advised that I open a SECOND ACCOUNT dedicated to just the Blackberry for Data @ $29.99 per month and then all phones on the MyFaves line would be activated for "MyFaves" Apparently, if you have ONE non-compatible "MyFaves" device on the plan it will ruin the entire billing system.

So I complied with the request, (they even had the nerve to re-check my credit report) and opened my second T-Mobile account!

TMobile promised to transfer everything over to the new account related to the Blackberry 8700G, including my jtylee AT tmo.blackberry.net email address.

One week later, none of this happened. I called Tech Support and they resent service books, rebooted the device, even made me use the AppLoader to reinstall software, but to no avail.

After the Technical Specialist contacted Research In Motion, RIM made it clear that the email address jtylee AT tmo.blackberry.net cannot be released and/or moved to the new plan, (which is a new 631 NY phone number) unless the old 631 NY Phone Number that the Blackberry had assigned to it was terminated. It's just a technical issue. After it's terminated, they can then transfer my jtylee email address over to the new blackberry account

So with that said, if the old 631 phone number attached to the Blackberry 8700G is terminated, TMobile wants to charge me a $275 Early Termination Fee.

Stop The Presses!!!

T-Mobile, convinces me to get a second account with them for Blackberry Internet outside of a MyFaves Plan due to "Technical Issues"
Research In Motion explains to T-Mobile (not to me) that they can't re-assign an email address unless the phone number is terminated. (This I would deem a "Technical Issue" as well)
And I get a $275 bill?

I have a total of 6 Lines with T-Mobile right now since 2002 overall, and I'm being punished?

T-Mobile explained that "there's no way to waive the early Termination Fee," My response was "You are T-Mobile, you created the Fee, you can waive the Fee?" I'm sure the CEO could say "Yes waive this guy the fee since A) He's been with us since 2002 B) He's now a customer TWO TIMES based on our advice (all of their customers should be like me) and C) We were never aware that this was an issue with Research In Motion."

But no, that's not happening.

You hit the nail on the head-tell the monkey to stick a banana were the sun don't shine and go straight to the organ grinder(ceo).See if you can get his PIN!!

Now they just tried to offer me the "Buyer's Remorse" deal on the NEW ACCOUNT... they said I have 14 days to cancel the new plan that we created...

Then "All you have to do is upgrade to a Pearl or 8800, add it back to the Family MyFaves Plan and we'll give you a SPECIAL discount price for the upgrade...."

Let me guess... $275?

I'm not starting to snap on the phone with them

I have had two other situations with tmo and told they could not do this or that but when I talk to a different cust svc rep they tell me they can and will. Once I went to a tmo store in my hometown and the manager told me that if SHE calledthem on her direct line (unavailable to public) she could basically get them to do anything. It worked for me-give it a try.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~always call back and try someone else, escelate, escelate, escelate... That's from someone who deals with escelations. Make em give you a pearl for free...

Usually go to the store. They can help out a lot. That's an odd issue. Usually I would have just recommended you to upgrade your phone to the pearl or 8800. Thatwould have been the easiest thing to do. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

just a thought... was it an authorized dealer who carries T-Mobile, or the actually STORE that T-Mobile Owns, Operates, Controls... etc?

I'm not questioning your intelligence, especially if you've been with them so long and have spent days on the phone with them, but I had many problems once trying to activate the Data on a 7105t, and it wasn't until the very very very very very (VERY) last moment after the last 4 of social and all that jazz, that they informed me they didn't have the power to execute what i was requesting.

fight'em till death. start a fundraiser on stacks to pay the termination :-)

best of luck,

ryan

Its an odd issue, because T-Mobile was never aware that RIM had these requirements...
I'm not spending $350 on an 8800 because of an issue they have internally... Pearl is out of the question, based on personal preference.

None of this was done at a T-Mobile Store, it was all online and over the phone from the get-go.

So either way, I'm in the process of alerting people of my new tmo.blackberry.net email address.

I would talk to the highest person up and threaten to sue... but I have a lawyer. Not everyone who threatens such action intends or has the means to follow through.

some info from the inside you dont need to have a myfavs phone to be able to use the myfavs. the only disadvantage is that you have to manage ur 5 online. so all u really had to do was change the plan then login to you my.t-mobile.com account and set up ur 5 that way. now tmobile states that u shouldnt do that but that jsut corporate bullshit. i manage a exclusive dealer and some people want non myfavs phones on a myfavs plan i tell them ok all you have to do is manage them online and they are happy. sorry about the crap you had to go thru but there are some stupid sales reps that only care about making money and will try to get people to do things they dont need to. my best advice is always go into exclusive dealers they are usually the most informed and secondly adding a line is never an answer to any problems

And I just read that the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals just ruled those two words to be invalid, at least in the case of AT&Ts contract wording. We just have to see how it plays out at SCOTUS.

Rcbjr.

I changed over to a mayfav plan even though I have an 8700G, I did not tell them what phone I have, you can have myfave on any phone that t-moible or any GSM phone.
