I get the impression some people think the new WOTW movie is a remake of the previous one. It isn't; they are both simply taken from the same book. The Spielberg version seems to follow the book more closely, despite its modern-day setting. Having said that, the previous version was still a decent effort, with some superb (for its time) special effects. Apparently a "Special Edition" DVD with a director's commentary has just been released.
