It has been years since I've renewed my wireless contract (AT&T) so I figure it's about time to do that and get a new phone since mine is ancient. I am looking for a phone that's FREE or cheap ($20 max) with a contract renewal, and from the deals I've found online it seems that I have several options to choose from (one website gives me 43 phones to choose from).
Also, I currently have a very BASIC plan with text-messaging -- I don't surf the web from my phone and while that would be nice it's not something that I'm willing to pay more for. Does this limit the range of phones that I can get?
I guess what I'm asking is, is a "plan upgrade" (ie. more $$ per month) an *absolute requirement* for certain phones? And when in the buying process would I find this out? (Don't want to do a bunch of research and settle on something only to find out later that it's going to cost me extra per month.)
And, where can I go to read reviews on the phones that I'm looking at getting?
