Wanting to get a new radio for my '96 Toyota Avalon but new to the process?

Hi everyone. I have a '96 Toyota Avalon with a messed up volume control and I noticed that you can buy car stereo radios from like Best Buy. The thing is someone told me I could buy one that has a plug in spot for a cord that would hook up to my new iPod nano so that I could play it over my stereo.

The thing is I have very little car knowledge or electronic knowledge so I have no idea what to do. Can someone explain in great detail or show me a page that would tell someone who has no experience what size I need and how to get the other one out and put the new one in?

when you go to best buy and buy a car tell them you want a cd player with mp3 capable there really not all that much even cheaper brands are equiped for mp3
