Want to trade car for jeep but their title aint right!?

Ok so heres the deal. I have a car that I want to trade for a jeep. My title is right. They pulled out a title that was actually a request for a lost title paper. The paper was in some other womans name. He has only had the jeep for a month. He said he just hasnt gotten it changed over. My husband said no way. You bring the lady back with id and then we will trade. Did he do the right thing?
 
Yes. I think this person is a "flipper". (one who buys cars cheap and re-sells for a profit) They have no real history on the vehicle and make up whatever story will help sell it. The title may also have some problems so you did well to back off. Never deal with someone who does not have a clear title in their name for any vehicle you consider buying.
