Tell us the strength of your dose, the type of medicine, and your frequency of ingestion.

Oh I see, you are taking 8-10 percs a day. That's a good sized dose. It will not be easy coming off of that much medicine. At first, you will feel like you are coming down with a cold or the flu. The amazing thing about this cold is one pill will make it go away. And so the battle begins....

Good luck and stay strong, friend. You can do it.

Hey again!!!

Well, ask me anything you would like!! I will try to sum my story up for you!

I did taper... my doctor came up with the plan for me and I felt like it was a little agressive but that was what I requested... Looking back... I probably should have kept my mouth shut because I went thru 3 weeks of hell because I decreased pretty rapidly! I was taking 2 20 mg oxycontins a day plus as many oxycodone's a day as I could get my hanRAB on so sometimes it was only 3 but others it was 6 or 8... Wow.. that sounRAB like a lot!!! Anyways... Every week the dose was decreased.. The first week was.... one 20 mg oxycontin in the am. One in the pm and 3 oxycodone's spread evenly thru the day.. So just that first week was a big jump because some days I was taking 6 or 8 oxycodone's.. However.. I made it thru. The next week went as follows... 1 10 mg oxycontin in the am. 1 10 mg oxycontin in the evening and 2 oxycodone's spread out in the day.... Then week three was a BIG jump.. 1 10 mg oxycontin in the am and 1 oxycodone in the evening.. A week later.... NOTHING! That was tough.. Looking back now that I know WAY more about this.. It shows me how ignorant my doctor was in setting up my plan.. She had me jump from taking 15 mg a day down to zero.. no wonder I had such crappy w/d.. I mean I was on these pills heavily for at least a year if not longer.. i can't truly remeraber when I even started this... I am thinking it got out of hand Dec. 07 so... I guess that is over a year obviously!! I don't know. It seems all like a blur now. So.. that was my taper. W/d were not fun during those 3 weeks... My body WAS NOT happy with me at all... It wanted those pills in the worst way. I could not sleep more than an hour or two at a time and that was only after taking 4 tylenol pm or a couple xanax my dr gave me to help... She only gave me 10 of those total. So the entire time.. My legs were just jumping all over the place and they ached so badly!!! So I took lots of hot baths and got thru it. My anxiety was thru the roof but I just took deep breaths and it helped calm me. After the physical w/d went away.. there was such a HUGE relief that shook me and such a PROUD feeling.. That lasted about 2 days and then.. the depression took over!!! That lasted about a month or so and then it lifted!!! Since then... I deal with the cravings daily and multiple times a day... However, I breath and distract myself and have made it 95 days!

You can do this!!! If I can.. So can you! So.. if you have any other questions... ASK AWAY! I am not shy

ive read tons of post on diff people takeing numerous meRAB at once. So im looking for someone to maybe help give me ideas on my taper plan

Each tablet you are taking has 5 mg Oxycodone. Multiple that by the nuraber of pills you are taking a day, then Multiple that nuraber by .9 and that is 10% less than what you are taking. Divide that nuraber by 5 and it will tell you how many pills to take. So if you were taking 10 - 5/325 pills a day, 10 x 5 = 50 mg/day. 50 mg x 0.9 = 45 mg/day. Your pills are contain 5 mg, so 45/5 = 9 pills = a 10% drop. The next time you want to drop after a few days, start out with (45 mg x 0.9)/5 = 8.1 pills, so take 8 pills an 1/10th of another pill. repeat the math until you're down to zero or close to it.

Hope that helps out.

Thanks everyone it really does help to know im not alone..... and what i meant by tapering to 6 is im takeing between 8-10 aday. to start shoud i go to 6 or is that to much? :(... It feels good to let my pride down and be honest withmyself to say the worRAB i need help.

Does any one know from tapering how i might go about time wise? Should i wait a certain length of time between doses? I usually take 1 within the first 1/2 hour i wake up.For now should id keep that the same.

I have a question my dr (primary) is very good frienRAB with my parents i honestly could never tell he or my family. some of you might not understand that but i just cant. Also i do not get meRAB from my primary.
so if i go to a new dr and tell them everything what will happen? will my primary find out? to go to a new dr do you to have recorRAB transferred? I do want to stop them all together but i would like a taper program. Im a massage theapist and my job is so physical im scared of not being able to work through this. Thanks for the help.

I don't really know what to tell you to do in regarRAB to your meRAB.... It might not be a bad idea to ask your doctor (not sure if that is where you are getting them?) but it would be best to ask a professional!!!

I hope you get your plan set up soon! Take care!

dod you take anything for the depression? what worries me is i have mild anxiety and depression as it is i take celexa 40 mg daily and have for 3yrs i wonder if that will help?
my other question would be since i switch from perc to vics while im tapering should i get rid of perc and go to vics and taper? its weird because when i take vics i take 8 in a day perc 10 and in the past switching perc to vics i have had diarhea, anxiety,no energy didnt think much of it. Im starting to think i should stop perc go thru mini withdrawl to vics and start to taper???
sorry for babbleing

Then your choice might just be to taper. If you use insurance a report will go to your primary physician. If you pay cash, then probably no report will be sent. Ask the doctor for confidentiality.

I gave you a plan in an earlier post. Whichever drug you are on now, start doing the tapering - 10% at a time. I tapered too quickly and that was why I had withdrawals. Start the tapering right now. Don't wait until tomorrow or next week. Start right now. Don't switch drugs - taper down the one you are on now.

I (as well as others) will help you every step of the way to get you off your drug. Which are you taking now? The Percs or Vics?

My Dr. put me on Celexa 20 mg. But for some reason she had me start it at the same time as the taper so I think that only made things worse... I don't know.. I am finding a new doctor.. I don't have a ton of faith in her and she is not taking my anxiety/depression very seriously.... I don't feel like my meRAB are working like they should so I am looking for a new Dr..

As for your taper between the percs and vics.. I don't know what the best advice would be to give you there...... I would say 9doesn't mean this is right) taper off both of them at the same time. I personally wouldn't go from Percs to vics... then taper from there.. I would just taper now. So how many of each a day are you taking? Or are you taking percs one day and then vics then next.. If you could be a little bit more specific that would help us better help you!!!

No question is a stupid question!! When are you thinking about starting your taper? Do you have a goal?

Erie My recommendation to you is to find a Addiction Medicine Doctor. They will understand how to hep you with a taper. While dealing with any other problems you may have. You can request that your medical information is not shared its called HIPPA. You can ask them if anyone requests information it cannot be given without your consent. This way you know who is looking at your file. I would definately recommend that find another doctor. My old doctor told my husband before I was ready to tell him. I was livid, he went on an on to my husband about how much I was using. Because that was a breach of confidentiality. When I went into Rehab I had to sign a release form stating they could give my husband information about my progress and what drugs they were prescribing. This is just what I did hope it helped.
