ideas? (car)? My clunker qualifies so I want to trade it in for a Honda CRV. But my credit is like 500 and a family member with FICO 800 wants to cosign but he is out of town until next weekend.

So is it possible I could go apply for it since I heard it takes a week for them to get an answer from bank and government? Then when they decline a loan I can get the cosigner to cosign for me next week.

Oh and I have $10,000 for downpayment including the clunker rebate.

unfortunately you have no recourse. program ends on monday and a lot of dealerships have stopped accepting clunkers for the program.

Instead of trying to get a new car and entering into a contract where your credit is so poor that you can't do it on your own, concentrate on getting your score up, like paying bills on time. Just because you had a co-signer with that good credit, doesn't mean they'll allow you to get a loan to buy a car, because YOU are still being evaluated for that loan.

If you have $10,000, then clear all your credit cards (pay them off completely) and cut them up (dont close the accounts, you need them to establilsh you have credit, but have $0 debt). Put that money in to a Savings account and let it earn interest for the next 6 months. PAY all your bills on time (rent, electriticy, phone, gas, etc) and watch your Credit score go up. It takes time, but if you do the above, you can get your own score up and qualify for a loan on your own.

Cash for clunkers ends Monday, and if they're gonna turn down your loan, they'll do it on the spot; it doesn't take days for loan approval anymore.
