wanna get my partner some fishing gear for XMAS?

but im really not sure, he enjoys fishing off his boat. he as well has only been into fishing for the last 3 months bout the time he got his boat so he is still learning the stuff he needs etc any ideas to help bring some fish in would be great :)
 
Fresh or salt water? Buying the right fishing gears depends on the fishing location. For freshwater, I say a nice, flexible spinning rod and reel combos for active use. Maybe a casting net so he can catch some live baits. For saltwater, I prefer a good size bait cast reel and rod combos because its smooth and you'll need all the sensitivity you can get. Throw in some tackle equipments and that will make a man really happy.
 
Not knowing what he already has makes it a little difficult.

Thinks I would like would be an assortment of quality terminal tackle: hooks, different styles of swivels, weights, leader. Those are the things you can't have enough of.

A nice fillet knife always comes in handy. I love a good pair if needle nose pliers that have a split ring opener on the. Depending on the species, a Bogo Grip with a built in scale would be nice.

You didn't mention what he fishes for or the techniques used. If you add more info, I would surely be able to give you more suggestions.
